Halloween night is the one night of the year when all of the Spooky Folk are able to cross into the human realm to scare all of the kiddies and vie for the title of most powerful. When Winda's parents ground her from going into the human realm on Halloween night, she is determined to sneak in alone and have her own adventure. One must cross the gate back again before sunrise or be trapped in the human world for one year, until the next Halloween.

When Winda is caught by her Jack-o-lantern caregiver, she is forced to let him join her for a night of adventure in the human realm. However, the centurians guarding the gate pose a problem, Weathering -a young Warlock turned into a black cat by Winda- creates a diversion, Winda is able to talk show more their way through the gate at the last minute. Let the adventure commence.

They happen upon a young Charlotte, who is being bullied by Mark and his four friends. Winda comes to her aid but not before making some enemies. A grateful Charlotte offers to show Winda and her friends around the human world. But, will they make it back to the gate before sunrise or will they be stuck in the human world along with Mark and his four bully friends for a whole year?

This is a wonderful middle school book bestowing the Halloween spirit along with the virtues of true friendship in the face of adversities. It flows easily from one chapter to the next with plenty of surprises all along the way. There are a few tense moments to get your heart beating just a bit faster. What happens to the group as the sun begins to peek over the horizon? One can only imagine as they keep reading to find out. It certainly is one night full of adventure, that is good for kiddies of all ages.
