Description

From New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon, the first in a new thriller series.

Everyone wondered about Shaye Archer's past. Including Shaye.

Shaye Archer's life effectively began the night police found her in an alley, beaten and abused and with no memory of the previous fifteen years, not even her name. Nine years later, she's a licensed private investigator, with a single goal—to get answers for her clients when there aren't supposed to be any.

And maybe someday, answers for show more herself.

Emma Frederick thought her nightmare was over when she killed her abusive husband, but someone is stalking her and tormenting her with mementos from her past. With no evidence to support her claims, the police dismiss her worry as post-traumatic stress, but Shaye is convinced that someone is deliberately terrorizing Emma...playing a cat and mouse game with only one goal in mind.

To kill Emma.

4.25--caught me by surprise! Got this free on Book mooch and didn't expect much. This one is a pageturner! Main character is likable and strong female lead, with a killer backstory that adds interest. Requires some suspension of belief, but none that ruined the thrill ride nature of the story. I'm so compelled to read more about the main character that I'm tempted to skip right to #3 in the series. Way, way better than books I've paid full price for. Reads fast...give it a shot!
Emma is being stocked by her dead husband! Impossible, right? But that's exactly how it looks until Shaye Archer, a private investigator, delves into this non-stop nail biter and unravels a diabolical secret so horrible it keeps everyone guessing until the very end. Shaye is a woman with a horrible past but, because she has a great support system in her friends and family, she wants nothing more than to help the victims of New Orleans and put away the bad guys. I found this story quite believable, though really sinister, and the characters personable. I definitely will read the rest of the series and highly recommend this one.
This was a good book. Not excellent, but there was nothing about it that I found lacking. The main character, Shaye Archer, is just damaged enough, and in an interesting enough way, to provide the author with ample room to explore her character in future books in the series. The plot was fast paced and intricate. There was plenty of suspense. The writing was good. The dialogue was witty.

I liked the character enough to pick up another in this series should I stumble across it, but not enough to eagerly seek the next book out. 4.5 stars.
This was a five star read until the very end. I loved so much of it, but the twist wasn’t handled well in my opinion. It was original and unexpected, and I can discount that it was great, but the writing surrounding it suffered. I really don’t want to wreck the ending, as it was a great book, but I just wish some things had changed.
I highly recommend it. I may be in the minority on this one but I loved this book. It was an easy and fast read, however, I did kind of get the creeps while reading it(good creeps though). It's categorized as mystery but I think it was more thriller. Definitely surprised me at the end. I think it ended on very good note and most of the ends were tied, yet there was enough left to want more and to have room for a sequel. I really didn't connect with any of the characters but they were interesting enough to keep me intrigued. Although it wasn't very dense, it wasn't cheesy either.
Malevolent is Volume 1 of a series of books.

Shane Archer is a young woman who is a rookie Private Eye with a childhood of abuse so serious she has no memory of her first 15 years of life. She was taken in by a caring and wealthy woman who gave her a loving home and a stable life. As she was setting up her investigator’s office in walks Emma Frederick as her first client. Emma slit the throat of her very abusive husband earlier and was cleared of all charges, but now he seems to have returned and is stalking her, ready to seek his revenge. Or at least someone with a remarkable resemblance to him is.

In a well written novel this story combines the thriller and murder mystery genres in an exciting, on the edge of your seat pace with show more unseen twists and unsuspected and very evil suspects.

If you like these genres, you’ll like this book.
