Description

Plain-Jane computer programmer Khloe Richardson needs a date-one to make the prince of her dreams jealous. Maybe then he'll finally see her as a desirable swan and not the ugly duckling in the second office from the left. But when she bids on a bachelor at a charity auction, the man she wins is millionaire Niall Hunter-who once made intense, passionate love to her and then left without a word. She's determined not to let her guard down again-among other things-around the infamous Irish show more lothario. Niall never imagined his penance for one hot-as-hell night with his best friend's little sister would be transforming her from a shy wallflower to a sultry siren. Helping her attract another man is torture...especially when he promised his friend he'd stay away. Plus she wants forever, and he's not a forever kind of guy. But Niall can't stop wanting her. Can't stop touching her. Can't stop, period. And damn if he can remember why he has to... show less

Funky, sexy and moving. I received an ARC of The Millionaire Makeover in exchange for an honest review. Stories like this one are so delightful to find. Niall is a character that is fighting inner turmoil but is such a magnificent blend of arrogant, sweet and tortured. Khloe has a fragile heart and a dreamers soul. Naima Simone created a story that blends a modern day feel with what I find endearing about romance. I loved it and will be reading more of this author's work.
Niall and Khloe are absolutely explosive together. Only thing is Niall will not allow himself to be the man that Khloe needs due to some misdirected notion that her late brother and his best friend Micheal felt that there was a better man out there for her. So begins a long period of denial until he returns to aide Khloe with finally bagging the man of her dreams. I loved the way that misguided sense of honor leads him to exactly what he thought he should not. And Micheal, the cunning clever man, controlling Niall from the grave. Loved the twist at the end. This series is turning out to be pretty fun to read.

Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

My Thoughts: A guy with an Irish accent? A masked bachelor auction? A past that lead to hate and will probably turn into lust and love? Yeah, it sounds like The Millionaire Makeover has all of the trappings of an intriguing contemporary romance. Of course I requested it to read.

I pretty much loved Khloe. She didn’t do anything crazy or beat the crap out of anyone; she was just so freaking realistic. Yes, she had fire and spunk, but she was also quiet and submissive at times. It was that moment when you realize you weren’t fully relating to other book characters because now you are. No one is constantly fiery, so it was such a nice change show more to see multiple sides to a character’s vulnerability.

Niall was interesting. At first I could only think of the guy from One Direction, which was weird and confusing since he doesn’t match the description at all (it was because of the name). Once I really got going with The Millionaire Makeover, I finally pictured the character instead of an actual person. I’ll admit I was a little confused by his icy exterior. I just kept thinking he was a jerk. I never specifically rooted against him, but there were a few times where I thought Khloe could do better.

As for the story itself, it was cute. It was completely unrealistic in a normal person’s world view, but for someone in high society I imagine it’s plausible. As a book, it was awesome because you want to be transported somewhere else, realistic or not. I did get a little bit annoyed with Khloe’s insistence that she was in love with Bennett. How would you know?! You’ve barely spoken to the man and just looked him up online. I don’t believe in love at first sight and I definitely don’t believe you can actually be in love with someone when you don’t really know them.

There were sex scenes; that should not be shocking. There weren’t as many as I expected (that’s neither a good or bad thing). The Millionaire Makeover actually made the effort to dive into the emotional side of Niall and Khloe’s relationship, instead of focusing on the physical, which was very nice to read. There was quite a bit of repetition though. The first time, I thought I’d accidentally gone back to a part I’d already read. By the third time, I was getting annoyed. I suppose there are probably only so many ways to describe sex in a sexy way, but the reader shouldn’t notice right away that it’s repetitive.

Overall, I enjoyed The Millionaire Makeover. I think I’ll have to check out Beauty and the Bachelor (book 1) because now I’m really curious about the overall series. If you’re a fan of the slightly more erotic (but not quite erotica) side of contemporary romance, then I would probably recommend The Millionaire Makeover.
