This 140 p. book was an absolute delight to read! Green showed considerable creativity in designing her aliens, appearances that were really quite funny. I read it as I was waiting for various appointments and sometimes laughed before I caught myself, garnering a mix of curious and irritated glances from other waiting room hostages.
I received a copy of Mission Improbable from the author J.J. Green through LibraryThing. The book lived up to its billing as “a slightly silly, light-hearted space opera romp.” At first I was annoyed with the main character Carrie, since she and I share the same predilection for information/instructions in writing rather than orally and I’m not a space cadet. But as the story progressed and her kind heart and desire to help became more obvious, I warmed up to her, as did her sidekick Dave. Green pays homage to classic space operas by having the first alien Carrie meets be a giant bug, who just happens to share Carrie’s problem with holding down a job. The other aliens are more inventive, including sentient office supplies and show more what appears to be vanilla pudding. After a bad start to her first intergalactic job as a peacekeeper, Carrie does succeed in saving the day and will go on to future adventures in space. show less

Received this as e-book through LibraryThing Member Giveaways.
Be prepared to laugh your way through this sci-fi farce! Carrie is a ditz who floats through life without really paying attention. Then, at the same time that she moves into a new flat and starts a new dead-end job.....she falls into the green light in the cupboards under the sink! What follows next is another new job, a misunderstanding with a co-worker, and a whole lot of alien adventure! The book is short, and is sure to have several more in the series.
If you are in need of a good laugh, this is the one to keep you rolling in the aisles.

From flat to fun: The first chapters of this outer space adventure book echo the regrettable latter half of Despicable Me 2 in which Lucy, the female lead, deteriorates into a ditzy victim. This book begins with a female so ditzy and distractible that I wanted her to seek medical help before proceeding beyond her apartment door. The plot then takes a delightful turn showing the author's strength as an imaginative writer with something meaningful to say. Even though the two main characters are a bit blah (a ditzy female and an oh so stereotypically gay male), the characters who appear off of our planet are engaging. The plot and the book's overall message brought me from 'uh oh' to 'aha.' I've recommended this book to middle schoolers, show more and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. show less

I received this book as part of the Library Thing member giveaway. I loved this book, I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of Carrie's adventures - even though there seems to be a finite number of them - sad face -. Carrie suddenly finds herself having two jobs one as a call center supervisor and one as an intergalactic negotiator between warring species and she hasn't read the orientation manual for either of them.
She was a mess, but inventive!

Mission Improbable started with a woman who was a mess and extremely self-centered. But, don't let that deter you, when she does apply herself, she's quite inventive. This book will take you to new galaxies to meet species that you think are Earth-like. Read the book - you'll be amused and entertained!

Carrie Hatchett unwittingly applies for a job as an intergalactic crisis mediator and gets it. This is the story of her first mission.

Mildly amusing in places but I feel no urge to read the rest of the series at the moment.
