Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this and write a review. This is a story about friendship and loss and self-acceptance.. I enjoyed the development of the characters as individuals, and collectively as a group. The back story is woven in so well; the transitions are smooth. The 3 misfits go through many struggles, but end up closer than ever. Although the ending was predictable once Agnes enters the water (you know the end is coming and her frail body will become ill after the chill) but the final chapters are touching and you feel the love they have for one another. Agnes has been kept to limited activities due to her condition all of her life, and when she makes the decision to go horseback riding and jump in the water, she show more is finally taking control of her life.
I really like Moira's transformation and development of self-acceptance. I think the characters are going through appropriate challenges for their age, and the author's writing makes it feel real.
I also like the cover. Once I read a description of the characters, that is exactly how I picture them.
