A seven-year-old gradually learns the connections between the tenants and her eccentric grandmother.

'm usually charmed by Backman stories but this one seemed to try too hard, and soured for me early on by the cruel neglect of the dog; locked alone in various rooms & never fed a proper meal. My own guess is that he died from malnutrition / chocolate-poisoning rather than the attack / old age.

Also found the fairy tales that "meant something" pretty tedious.
