This book contains a mind boggling math problem on each page. The questions are all those that require estimation and major calculations such as how many glasses of lemonade would it take to fill an olympic swimming pool or how long would it take me to sign a card to send to every person on earth. All the questions are accompanied by cute illustrations and funny comments. The book explains how the answer would be found as well as giving the answer. At the back is a glossary as well as more explanations and further reading. This is a great book for a junior classroom to get children thinking about all the ways you use math in everyday life.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Mind Boggling Numbers by Michael J. Rosen, published in 2016, directly supports middle-grade number sense TEKS. This is because it is set up in a way where it is asking a question and answers thoroughly, exploring the use of very large numbers, what they look like, and why they can be difficult to visualize. Additionally, this book was a recipient of the Mathical Prize in 2017 for ages 11-13.

Though the book is short, it represents mathematical ideas through illustrations that help readers see real-world examples of where these numbers appear in nature, science, and daily life. Students would encounter vocabulary such as magnitude, exponent, and scale.

I could connect this book to instruction on powers of ten or even scientific notation show more because it utilizes concrete imagery. it's because of this that I believe it would be a good fit for a middle grades classroom library, as well as due to its length and usefulness. show less
Mind-boggling is right! The questions might seem basic, but the numbers that answer them are really, really big! Fun illustrations give context to the questions, and the actual mathematical process used to answer each question is included at the back, as well as metric conversion tables and suggestions for further reading. This is great fun for anyone who loves to think about crazy mathematical questions.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC.
While the teacher in this book is hilarious. And this book does contain some mind-boggling math problems. This book is one of the many that can prove math can be fun. This book contains math problems but if you don’t get the answer the answers are on the back of the book. The illustrations are also quite fun.
