Using this non-fiction picture book to study the depression and the dust bowl can be integrated throughout all content areas. Using a picture book can give older students an understanding of the implications of the dust bowl without the extensive reading that sometimes is too difficult for middle/highschoolers.
Summary: The Dust Bowl was a huge hardship in Kansas in 1935. The giant grey cloud of dust swept through and the people didn’t know how to handle it and did not know what to do.
