This is a sweet book about a mother talking to her young infant as she makes a quilt that shows everything on their farm. She tells the infant everything there is to look forward to when helping daddy on the farm. It is important to talk to infants, even if they don't understand what you are saying, they know the sound of your voice and find that comforting, they can here the tone of the way you are talking that brings theme ease. And most of all it creates a bond between baby and mother., or caregiver.

As Mother sews a quilt for Baby, she quietly tells its story, patchwork square by square. There are the frolicking sheep and lambs, and there’s the collie, Floss, who helps Daddy herd them. There are the mare and her frisky foal, a flapping goose and her gosling, a cat curled up with her kitten. And when the story is done, there is a soft quilt to surround Baby with all the scenes of a family’s familiar world.
Through stories of the family passing on tradition, and love for this child the mother shows warmth and compassion, like how ERIKSON said build trust and wraps the baby in the quilt the mother made to keep her connected to everyone.
As a mother sews, she talks to her baby about the quilt she is making. Stitched into the squares are pictures representing their farm, including many baby animals: puppy, lamb, calf, foal, chick, gosling, kid, and kitten. After she finishes the quilt, the mother wraps her baby in it and quietly summarizes the pictures appliqued onto it. The baby falls asleep.
