Honestly, this book just wasn't working for me. I was told I could read it without reading the first, and I'm not sure if that's true. There was a hefty info dump at the beginning of the MC's life story and hints at what happened in the first book, so I did get the gist of where things stood, but was that enough?

So what exactly made this book not work for me? It would have to be the voice. It seemed too ridiculous and silly for my tastes. The casual tone and attempts at humour were seriously over the top, and it just made me cringe. Here's an example:

Then I fired a very impressive double kick into the jaws of the two remaining Knights, dropping them like a bad cell phone connection. "Again I say, it's just you and me, bud."

The bad guy also likes to mentally conjure a fiddle and dance around his victims like a madman? Yeah, this wasn't for me. ( )
