Description

Christmas is a time for...fruitcake. Rookie reporter Emma Collins hates fruitcake; for that matter, she hates Christmas, too. When three Washington State women are finalists in a national fruitcake contest, the story is assigned to her. That's bad enough. It gets worse when she has to fly in a small plane (scary!) with a smart-aleck pilot named Oliver Hamilton (sexy!) and his scruffy dog (cute!). In the end she meets three wise women, falls in love and learns There's Something About show more Christmas.

This is also a time for families, for togetherness, for memories. On Christmas Eve, Maryanne and Nolan Adams tell their kids the story they most want to hear--how Mom and Dad met and fell in love. It all started when they were reporters on rival Seattle papers...and next thing you know, Here Comes Trouble!.

After struggling through a rather dark mystery, these were just what I needed. Both romances are set in the Seattle area, and feature reporters. My one complaint is that the author seems to think it's cute for a guy to surprise a woman with a passionate kiss when they don't really know each other very well. Fortunately guys don't read these books.
On the front of the novel there is a line that says, "Two classic stories of laughter and love at Christmas time." How true! The novel includes two short stories of 1) "There's Something about Christmas" and 2) "Here Comes Trouble". As I was reading the first story, I was remembering all of the years growing up when my grandmother would always give us another fruitcake for Christmas. I was always intrigued as it was the only cake that came within a cardboard box. Inside the cardboard box, it was carefully wrapped in plastic. When it was first brought home, cardboard box and all would go in the refrigerator. Mother and I would have a slice each night for dessert after Christmas. I loved all the jellied candies and always saved the show more maraschino cherry for the last bite as they were my favorite and few and far between. Reading the story brought back so many memories but now an urge to try each of the three (3) recipes - maybe as a gift to surprise my Mother next Christmas.
And then the 2nd charming story about Maryanne and Nolan Adams who have a very special story all their own to share on Christmas Eve.
Debbie Macomber is truly a gifted writer as through reading her novels you can feel the treasures of daily life and experience with her characters the joys and blessings of friendship, family, neighbors, community, and the best we all have to offer when we allow our love to shine.

I really enjoyed this romantic Christmas romance. It's one of two stories in Glad Tidings. I bought this at a local Goodwill store and I've given it a 5* rating. There's a little bit of humor, adventure, dogs, and romance to keep you turning pages. It's a real easy read with 3 different recipes for fruitcake.
A cute holiday story with a fun plot, many heartwarming moments and a touch of humor. I always enjoy when the male pursues the female and I have a new appreciation for fruitcake. Journalist Emma tried to get pilot Oliver to advertise for his small plane service in her newspaper.
Two light, fun Christmas romances. Nothing deep, but cotton candy's fun to eat sometimes.
A pair of stories about some journalists and romances that happen around christmas. The first is "There's Something about Christmas" which is all about three women's christmas cake recipies and a journalist who is trying to break out of small stories and into something bigger. She finds herself flying to the locations and is strangely attracted to the pilot. This story includes the recipies.

The Second story is Here Comes Trouble, about two rival reporters working on the same story who fall in love.

They're both perfect Christmas fare, particularly if you're trying to get up the enthusiasm for the season.
