I just turned forty last year and I could not conceive (ha ha)of the horror of being pregnant now. I'm just getting everything that I wanted after raising three boys. How devastating it would be! Elly and John take it well though and do a fine job, the birth of April was dramatic and special. Again, lots to laugh about.
The year's worth of strips in this For Better or For Worse collection all play out with Elly's pregnancy in the background. (Well, okay, it's actually only nine month's worth of strips, but you know what I mean.) there are a lot of funny strips in here, but my favorite is the one right before April is born. It's a goofy gag, but Ms. Johnston set it up so well. I wonder what it must have been like to read those strips one day at a time. Oh, well...

Elizabeth, 9, much to her dismay, gets glasses. Michael, 13, gets his first job, selling hot dogs at a stand. Elly, 39, somewhat to her dismay, is pregnant. Gordon considers dating his future wife, Tracey Wells. Elly gets stuck at home in a snowstorm and gives birth to April. John's obnoxious moocher cousin Fiona comes to stay and "help" with the baby, until John musters the nerve to roust her out into an apartment he rents for her. Many bookmarks of life here.
I denne samling får Elizabeth briller, hvilket hun hader.
Glimrende skildringer af hverdagssituationer. show less
