Danielle Girard's Exhume is a top-notch psychological thriller. From the very beginning of the book, I was caught up in Annabelle Schwartzman's nightmare. The book was is fast paced and I couldn't put it down. In fact, it kept me up more than 3 hours past my bedtime!
Even though the story was a little over the top, I enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. This was the first time I have read anything by Danielle Girard, but I will look into some of her other books. Purported to be the first in a new series about medical examiner Annabelle Schwartzman, I look forward to reading the next one and hope that the story will be a little more grounded.
Four stars for this one, which means that if you are into psychological thrillers, you should read this book.
Is hard to put into words the reason why I enjoyed this book. It is hard to describe it without giving away too much and spoil it. All I can say is that if you're into psychological thrillers, you should read this book.
I'll start by saying that I enjoyed the Dr. Schwartzman character. Despite everything she has gone through, see finds the strength to move forward and overcome adversity. All of this without whining.
I enjoy how all the story background and references to the past are part of the current story timeline. There is no chapters that bring you to the past and explained what happened back in the day. Instead, all that show more information is embedded in the current timeline, and it's referred to through explanations during conversations, thoughts of the main character, or situational descriptions. This allows the story to flow in a linearly.
At the end, there will be no shocking revelations, but there will be some surprises. This is more of a thriller than a suspense novel, so it's expected. At the same time, it is the first book of a series, so Dr. Schwartzman cannot die.
Highly recommended novel if you like really bad guys, and how is this possible plots. show less

This was a new author for me. Initially it seemed as the writing was targeted for young adults, but picked up quickly. The story had unexpected turns which I liked. I'd recommend this read and this author. I'll be reading more.
I noticed this book through Amazon Prime and said what the hell. I would recommend this book
Easy read. Relaxing. Great characters. A good book to curl up with to unwind from the day. 5 stars all the way. Looking forward to the next in this series

Not sure why the title is "Exhume", I don't recall anything being exhumed.
I liked the idea of a medical examiner mystery more than the execution. There are a lot of repetitive thoughts expressed. "I wish I was brave enough blah blah and then all these people wouldn't be dead blah blah.

Really thought this book had promise but it is too ridiculous to finish.
