REVIEW:  BOUND TO SUBMIT (BLASPHEMY) BY LAURA KAYE

Bound to Submit by Laura KayeMy rating: 5 of 5 starsLaura Kaye is not afraid to delve inside the human psyche. Some of her best stories tackle tough and controversial subjects. Bound to Submit is her latest. Kenna is a complex character. Having endured the tragedies of war and a career ending injury, she shields her emotional pain. Her broken body and bruised spirit has lead her to seek out a dark avenue of expression. In order to feel alive, she thrives on the physical expression of pain. In that moment she can expose herself without the prying eyes and the heartbreaking looks. Griffin is no white knight. He has his own demons to contend with, but nothing hurts him more than the shell that Kenna has become. The distance between them is like a chasm. Heartache broke them apart, can tragedy heal the rift? There is no black and white with Bound to Submit. The story is designed on feelings and the power they have. Disturbing, sensual, tragic, inspiring -there is no halfway with Kenna and Griffin.View all my reviews

My biggest challenge with romance novels is how much "getting to know you" time is sacrificed in the name of a plot that doesn't drag. I totally understand, but it still irritates me a bit. The idea that the protagonists in this story had a previous history really works for me because presumably they've already done that bit and just need to catch up. I also love how the BDSM aspects are really a key element in how they face their personal challenges together, not just a fun bit on the side. I thought this was really thoughtfully written and did a good job of describing the challenges of an wartime amputee without dragging down the story.
Bound to submit is the first book in a new series by Laura Kaye called Blasphemy. If you are not a fan of BDSM books I wouldn't recommend to begin this book even if the BDSM elements are on the light side. In this book we meet Kenna and Griffin two people who were once together, but Griffins refusal to take their relationship to a more intimate level. He might have realized his mistake, but by the time he did Kenna had deployed. In the years she served, she lost her best friend and her arm while she served and now she is seeking Griffin in order to make her fill whole again.

What I liked about this story is that this isn't just a romance story. Kenna feels guilty because she is the only survivor from her time with the Marines and we get show more a look inside the life of a person who managed to come back, but wasn't as whole as she was before. Griffin is the person she needs to help her move on. The story is short and is not wasting any time on flashbacks of what these two had and they don't waste any time fighting over what they used to have. It's just them taking their time getting back to each other again.

With two books into the Blasphemy series I can tell that this is going to be an amazing new series and I am going to love each new addition. I am hoping that master Leo will get a story next, but I will welcome any story. I am recommending this story to everyone, unless you don't like that Griffin in the beginning is scening with another woman.
