Folklore and the study of folklore have long been recognized as important for the interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Introduction
The words of Gunkel -- who was perhaps the most "folkloristically" aware Bible scholar of his time, like those of Zakovitch, a modern scholar with genuine interests in traditional literatures and folklore scholarship, admit of discomfort in equating or associating folklore with the Bible.
