Description
This new collection of fifty-two poems reintroduces the noted Danish poet into English, and reveals the clarity of Nordbrandt's vision. As a reviewer wrote in the Danish journalNye Boger, "Every poem that Henrik Nordbrandt has written bears, as in all the works of great masters, his unmistakable signature: the definite unity of -motif and style." The ALA Booklist described an earlier collection of his work in English as "cargoes of surprise, landfalls with the -immediacy of music.Tags

Henrik Nordbrandt's studies of Oriental languages at the University of Copenhagen and the more than 15 years he has lived abroad in Turkey, Greece, and Italy have left a deep mark on his poetry. From his position outside of Danish culture, he has become a sensitive cultural critic. Nordbrandt's poetry, written in the modernist tradition, pits the show more mysticism and sensuality of the South against the cold rationality of the North. He is also well known for his modern love poetry. Nordbrandt has received numerous prizes for his skillful poetry, among them the Grand Prize from the Danish Academy.
