Description
Fiction. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:Kristin Burns has lived her life by the philosophy "Don't think, just shoot"--pictures, that is. Struggling to make ends meet, she works full-time as the nanny for the fabulously wealthy Turnbull family, looking after their two wonderful children and waiting for her glamorous life as a New York photographer to begin. When her photographs are considered by an elite Manhattan art gallery, it seems she might finally get the chance that will start her career.show more But Kristin has a major distraction: forbidden love. The man of her dreams is almost hers for keeps. Breathless with an inexhaustible passion and the excitement of being within reach of her goals, Kristen ignores all signs of catastrophe brewing.
Fear exists for a reason. And Kristin can only dismiss the warnings for so long. Searching desperately for the truth through the lens of her camera, she can only hope that it's not too late. This novel of psychological suspense is a stunning achievement for thriller master James Patterson, "one of the bestselling writers in history" (New York Sun). show less

I put James Patterson aside a while ago, tiring of his crime fiction as they managed to become shallower in plot and character with every book I read. I picked this copy up in Oxfam (for 99p in pristine condition) and decided to give him another chance. I can’t say he hasn’t changed. He’s become a whole new author (hello, Mr. Roughan). There’s still an unsatisfactory lack of depth in everything from character to ability to convince the reader to suspend disbelief, or to even keep from rolling our eyes at the clichéd images. I still believe there’s a lot of creep to be found around the topic of cameras, but recycling lame ideas isn’t going to cut it. The principle character’s dreams, while obvious, were at least written show more with relish but if it had taken me more than an evening to finish this book, I wouldn’t have picked it up again. As it was, I made it to the end and instantly wished I’d stopped reading during the previous ‘ending’/paragraph, which at least didn’t negate the entire plot of the damn book.
In summary: Oxfam can have it back. It’s still in pristine condition, apart from where I chewed the spine in disgust at what the male authors still believe women to consider romantic *performs clichéd girlish EYEROLL* show less

Decent story about Kristen, a photographer, who takes pictures for a living hoping to be discovered by a gallery in NYC.. While waiting Kristen has a job as a nanny for rich dude and his family. Throw in forbidden love and really bad nightmare she has most every night and this makes for one stressed girl. A nice easy read.
How does James Patterson put his name on these novels? It is very clear the entire book was written by Howard Roughan, as the style, narrative and story were NOTHING remotely like James Patterson. This is one of those novels that I accidentally grabbed when I saw the James Patterson name, started reading and then had to check to see if James Patterson's name really was on the front cover.
The book is just not good. The plot is very thin at best, the dialogue and writing miss the mark at almost every turn and the ending is so forgettable, I've already forgotten it. Do yourself a favor, and if you are a fan of James Patterson, only read the novels with his name as the only one them (Women's Murder Club being the sole exception).

I'm a great James Patterson fan, but this book was a little disappointing. As usual it's fast paced and I managed to read it in just a couple of hours. The writing is good, but the overall story felt more like it should have been a short story rather than a novel. I found the ending obvious and a little disappointing. However, saying that it is a must read for all Patterson fans.
Excellent read, struggle into madness. This was a really great read that kept me guessing. This was my first Patterson novel and I was very impressed. I typically enjoy horror, and this had just the right amount of spooky to keep me interested.
Redemptive.
I'm kind of embarrassed that I could not put this book down because I know there are other things I could have done with my time. But I even found myself laying awake at night wondering how the story was going to progress, and then when I was nearly half way through I didn't see a reason to stop!
I loved it. It was kind of confusing as it went along, and annoying in spots, but if you kept up with it, it was fantastic! I really liked the ending ... It was just fantastic : )

The marketeers deserve to have their collective wrists slapped over the awful covers for this supernatural thriller. Scared of putting off the regular fan base they disguise this unusual approach from Patterson as just another cop thriller. With that uncertainty hanging over the novel it's going to disappoint, however if readers know what they are getting then the story is so much more enjoyable. The usual Patterson twists are present as the story follows a nanny, with a passion for photography, as she becomes embroiled in a tale of love and betrayal. With the trademark short chapters keeping the story flowing there is a little frustration at times when the story continues to offer few answers, chapter after chapter. Naturally the story show more wraps up and the although the journey is mostly an enjoyable one, it lacks a feeling of satisfaction once the final page is turned. A good effort at something different and Patterson fans, who know what they are getting, shouldn't be too disappointed. show less
