Not quite sure why the author wants to change the definition of parody to emphasize that he's "honoring" the original poems... call them homage or tribute. Parodies are like satires, emphasis on humor, implication ridicule.
Great concept. First, title poem paired with original by [a:Beatrice Schenk de Regniers|232179|Beatrice Schenk de Regniers|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1508968182p2/232179.jpg], is great. Great to see a new-to-me [a:Langston Hughes|36910|Langston Hughes|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1206669966p2/36910.jpg], "Winter Sweetness." I love "Hail," the tribute to "Fog" by [a:Carl Sandburg|16380|Carl Sandburg|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1225504449p2/16380.jpg]:
The hail flies
on furious hooves.
It batters show more cars
and rooftops,
slamming anger,
and then melts away.
But even though there are a couple others worth reading, this really is only of value as a mentor text to be used by an educator unsure of how to teach poetry writing. Imo. show less

This is such a cute poetry book for children! It contains many different poems that are encouraging and fun. The illustrations are also great.
This author took a collection of poems by famous authors then on the other page he would write parodies of his own. One was 'Winter Sweetness' the other was 'Winter Warmth'. Another was 'Mice' the other was 'Rat'. He would mimic but add his own twist to the poem. Some of them were rhyming but some of them weren't. The poems did have the same flow, though.
A diverse selection of short poems surrounding a wide-range of topics. The author pulls short poems and excerpts from various authors' works to create a children's book that can be read one poem at a time or in its entirety.
