A brother and sister are visiting their grandfather who has no TV, no video games, and no computers. He only has books! Grandfather sends them to the attic where they discover a book that expands into a giant map and takes them on a wild adventure. Summary- This book is about two kids who were so they start looking at books. The kids dive into a book and it takes them to far away make believe places. The kids continue going through different pages of the book and ending up in different situations. Eventually the kids end up back in the attic they started in and continue to read books. Genre- This book is fantasy because it shows pictures of kids going into books to different places and imagining many different things happening to them that are not real life. Age- Grades 2-5 Media- pencil drawings, water colors, and oil drawings This wordless book tells the story of two bored children at their grandfather's house. They go into a secret room where they find an interesting book; it unfolds into many squares with different illustrations. The children fall into a square to experience an adventure. In the end, they discover that reading books can be a doorway to adventure. The book cover is non-exciting,but inside the detailed black and white drawings turn into colorful and imaginative adventures. The illustrations cover the page and draw the reader in to the adventure. Great for story time, and discussion about what will happen next. Themes include boredom, siblings, books, reading, and imagination. Two bored kids are led by their Grandpa into a secret staircase behind the bookshelf, leading to a secret room, where they find "The Bored Book." To their surprise, when they open it, they find colorful, exciting, endless fold-out pages, into which they can dive into, transporting them to far-off worlds and nail-biting adventures. After meeting up with Sasquatch, pirates, knights, a dragon, and a close call with an octopus, they fold the book back up and run back down to show to their Grandpa. When he opens it, it's just a regular book, but now they notice the books on the bookshelf that have cover pictures showing the adventures of where they had just been. They finally settle down, enjoying a book together.
A brother and sister are bored and irritated visiting their grandfather. There's no TV, no video games or computers - only books! Sent by their grandfather into the attic, they discover a dusty volume that is unlike all the others. When they open it, it expands into a giant map. As the map grows larger and larger, filling the attic, the children fall into adventures that take them all over the world, face to face with sharks, pirates, knights, even an abominable snowman. Suddenly their visit is anything but boring! No library descriptions found.
