Description

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints - Ephesians 6:18 Prayer. Satan laughs as he looks at the church today and says to himself, "You can have your Sunday schools and your young people's small groups, your boys' and girls' programs, your vacation Bible schools, your Christian schools, your elegant churches, your retreats, your music programs, your brilliant preachers, and even your revival show more efforts - as long as you don't bring the power of almighty God into them by earnest, persistent, believing, mighty prayer." It is not necessary that the whole church prays to begin with. Great revivals always begin first in the hearts of a few men and women whom God arouses by His Spirit to believe in Him as a living God, as a God who answers prayer, and upon whose heart He lays a burden from which no rest can be found except in persistent crying unto God. May God use this book to inspire many who are currently prayerless, or nearly so, to pray earnestly. May God stir up your own heart to be one of those burdened to pray, and to pray until God answers. show less

Good overview of Scriptural teaching on prayer. Interesting to hear the cultural issues in 1900 that Torrey was concerned about.
Brief Review: How to Pray is a classic on Christian prayer and ministry. R.A. Torrey, friend of D.L. Moody, wrote this work in an effort to invigorate and educate Christians of his time and ages to come concerning the necessity, approach, and results of biblical prayer. In addition, chapters 11 and 12 provide an insightful presentation of the need, causes, and requirements for much needed revival. His description of and prescription for his time in history, prove profoundly similar to that of modern times. For more visit www.mynameisrush.com
The great evangelist R.A. Torrey gives practical pointers that clearly reveal the conditions God has established for intelligent, effective prayer that brings answers. Torrey explores topics such as why prayer is important, how to pray in the Spirit, why we need to be constant in prayer, and what hinders God's answers to prayer. He cites scripture, saying "You have not because you ask not." Then he adds the element of faith to prayer, stating why believers must pray without doubt and believe that God will answer.
Included in this book is: prayer and obedience; praying in the Spirit; praying according to God's will, abiding in Christ; prayer with thanksgiving; hindrances to prayer; when to pray, prayer and revival plus much more.
