This is a very brief short story. A man pays a visit to his wife who is resident in some type of psychiatric facility. She is agitated, hostile and accusatory towards her husband. Her language and demeanor do, in fact, seem “crazy.” One has the impression that she belongs where she is, at least for the time being. She is, however, able to put on a “sane” face when a psychiatrist stops by briefly to speak with the couple. In the second half of the story the scene has shifted to a nearby motel where the husband is staying for a couple of days so he can visit his wife. It is revealed that not all of the wife’s accusations are products of delusion. There is a gritty, film noir, vibe here. There are five illustrations by R. Crumb show more in his usual mature style (count me as a Crumb fan, especially of his work from the 1980s on). show less
