Chicago Rebels (1)

Description

Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess-underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won't let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses. show more Veteran center Remy "Jinx" DuPre is on the downside of a career that's seen him win big sponsorship's, fans' hearts, and more than a few notches on his stick. Only one goal has eluded him: the Stanley Cup. Sure, he's been labeled as the unluckiest guy in the league, but with his recent streak of good play, he knows this is his year. So why the hell is he being shunted off to a failing hockey franchise run by a ball-buster in heels? And is she seriously expecting him to lead her band of misfit losers to a coveted spot in the playoffs? He'd have a better chance of leading Harper on a merry skate to his bed . . . "This control thing is all well and good, Harper, but one day you're going to have to recognize that you can't make every call yourself. People want to help you. People want to love you."

This was so so so good.

I went into this expecting a cute little hockey romance with a little bit of plot, but mostly spice, and we'd all live happily ever after. The End.

BUT WHAT I GOT was a really well written story with complicated characters and relationships and - okay there was some spice in there too.

I laughed. I cried. I clutched my pearls. I need to keep reading this series.

P.S. I'd let Remy DuPre make me a sandwich any day.
Not my normal fare. I'm a huge hockey fan, but I primarily read historical romances. The entire genre of sports romance was completely beyond my ken before I gave this book a shot (ha!). I'm glad I did. The characters were fun, multi-dimensional, interesting, tons of baggage to work out, and (mostly) communicative. The hero is amazing -- hot, sexy, and a total gentleman. The heroine is broken in so many familiar ways. Getting to the HEA was a wonderful ride, and I admit my chest ached as many times as I laughed. Well played, indeed. Picking up the next one ASAP.
OMG, this book!

I loved Kate Meader's Hot in Chicago series and really liked her prequel novella for this one ( In Skates Trouble ) and was looking forward to seeing what Remy and Harper's story would bring, but the story itself? Blew my expectations right out of the water!

I absolutely loved both Harper and Remy. Ms. Meader did a great job of showing their POVs and giving very realistic reasons why they shouldn't be together, all while proving that staying apart shouldn't even be an option. When it looks like they really won't be able to have a life together, when Harper takes Remy's words and says they're not enough? I swear, I stopped breathing, it was so hard to read. Even knowing there HAD to be an HEA in the end didn't make it any show more less devastating to get through...how would she ever manage to make things okay again?

Of course she did, and did so brilliantly, I'm happy to report. And now we have middle sister Isobel's book to look forward to next...can't wait!

These type of romance novels are like crack or chocolate to me. I can't resist the storyline, especially when it's about sports. The one by Stephanie James about the New Zealand rugby players comes to mind. The formula for these is like all romances, forbidden love between sports management and players, but oh so tempting!! I vowed I'd not try to read any further on this type, but am looking forward to volume two of this one. This series has 3 women, sisters connected by a father in common, but virtual strangers to each other. When he passes away, he leaves the hockey team to all three women, and they have to run the team together and bring the team from the bottom of the standings to at least a playoff spot. Yes, it's stereotypes all show more around, but oh so entertaining!
Recommended.

I loved this so much; I've found my catnip. Not only is it a romance novel, but it has hockey AND blatant feminism. Reading this during the playoffs was a great decision on my part. Meader's writing surprised me. She's hilarious and eloquent, and I really enjoyed this one. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series and everything else she's written. Full review to follow.
Ms. Meader is the go to author for sexy. Her characters are an irresistible combination of sweet and salty with a pinch of humor thrown in for good measure. Irresistible You is more than a hot tamale read. It tackles real issues. Issues like sexism, self - doubt, pride and second chances. Harper and Chase are the spark of this heated ensemble. Both are desperately trying to prove their worth in a sport that's already written them off. For Remy, hockey is a way of life. His world is the sport that made him a star, but age and reputation precede him and have landed him in a less than stellar position. Harper, is a woman making her way in a man's world. Faced with a failing team, family upheaval and a shocking betrayal she sets out to make show more her mark. What's a girl to do when faced with a frustrating, egotistical, sexy man? Fall in love, of course. Breaking the ice takes on a whole new meaning. show less
