Read this because of a recommendation from Dr. Debbie Reese at American Indians in Children's Literature and am now fully in love with the Lola Levine series - and will be sure to get some for my niblings for their birthdays and other book-giving holidays. This one's a joy to read because it doesn't shy away from differences between Lima and ... wherever Lola is from in the US? ... but it deals with everything with such a light and sure touch. Lola is charming, and her reports for her class are adorable, and the author and illustrator do a wonderful job of showing how much Lola's mom misses her sister and her hometown, what Lola and Ben learn on their trip, the sibling rivalry/interaction between them, and some of the history of Peru show more and its peoples. Excellent chapter book! show less
Read for Peru theme in Children's books. Interesting, recommendable, but just not quite enough for me.
