Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965), the son of a Lutheran pastor, was born in Alsace. He earned doctorates in both philosophy and theology, and later earned his medical degree. He was Professor of Theology at the Theological Seminary of St. Thomas in Strasbourg. He spent most of his life as a physician in Gabon, Africa, in the village of Lambarene; and show more in 1953 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.
