Eva and her classmates are thrilled about a writing contest at school, but the stories take a backseat when Eva's beloved pet bat Baxter goes missing!

This is another cute read in this series and is sure to please young readers. Eva learns a lesson about not judging others. The friendship and helpfulness among all the owlets is sweet. Silly word play like "owlmazing" is peppered throughout the book, which is cheesy but amusing. This is a perfect bridge book for young readers graduating from early readers but not quite ready for much thicker chapter books.

{My thoughts} – In this book Eva goes to bed after leaving her bedroom window open. When she wakes up her pet bat is missing. He apparently flew out the window after she’d went to sleep.

At school they are suppose to write a story and then submitting it for a contest. Eva can’t concentrate on anything but her missing pet. All her classmates band together and help her look for him. The look everywhere, while still working on their stories.

Eventually they find him and rescue him. Eva is so happy to have him back that she’s finally able to work on and complete her story. The next night at school they all read their stories for the contest.

I really enjoy these books. They have colorful illustrations, simple stories and nice little show more lessons within the pages. I also like how at the end of each book their are discussion questions that can be used to further discuss the readers understanding of the book. show less
I love this series. Great for independent readers aimed for the 2nd grade level. The books are engaging as it contains illustrations and text is easy to read. I would love to have this series in my classroom library. This book Baxter is Missing along with the rest of Elliot's books are page turners! I know that reading these books can improve anyone's reading level and spark students' love for reading.
Eva Wingdale has many book in the Owl Diaries series that are happy and fun books. These story chapter books are fun and day reads for children who maybe are just beginning to move from picture books to chapter books. The book includes some pictures throughout the story with colorful scenes. This series is based on a fantasy story line but includes many important life lessons about friendship, kindness, and loyalty. Overall this series was a fun and easy read that I enjoyed.
