Description

In eight years, Marlon James will be one of the brightest rising stars in the music industry. Bristol Gray will be his tough, no-nonsense manager. But when they first meet, she's a college student finding her way in the world, and he's an artist determined to make his way in it. From completely different worlds, all the things that should separate them only draw them closer. It's a beautiful beginning, but where will the story end? Contains mature themes.

I have written before about how romance novellas don't work for me because there is not time to build requisite tension. Not a problem here! I think that is mainly because this is a lead in to a full length book. There is no resolution here, Ryan uses this space to help us get to know these two wonderful characters. I am 100% in love with them and loved spending time with them. Ryan takes on issues of race, class, parenting, family dynamics and more and does it all with such a deft hand. I listened to this in one shot on a flight from the West Coast, and It think it really works as a one sitting read.
Marlon is a dreamer. He yearns for the unknown. Bristol is a realist. She has set her mind on success and will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals. Opposite in every way. However, the bond that emerges is one of support, friendship and maybe something more. Kennedy Ryan has a style that grabs at the heart, first and foremost. Flow lays the groundwork for the beginning of something special.
This had promise but didn't do anything. It's only a short listen of 4 1/2 hours, and unfortunately it is read by Maxine Mitchell, and one encounter in one's listening career is enough with Maxine. She brought a certain unique-ness to the first time I heard her, but after that, her extremely stylised reading is waaaaaay to intrusive. Yet there are 289 books read by her on Audible!

I love this book, ai just found a new author I love rock star book boyfriends, this prequel to Grip was amazing to read, it gave me a new perspective on Marlon.
4.1 stars

In this prequel, the author gives insight into how Grip and Bristol came to be. This is sweet but didn't grab my attention the way that Grip did.
