Colin's book in the Guardian's series. After reading Demon Angel I wasn't very excited about picking this one up. Colin was an interesting character in the first novel, but I wasn't very keen on reading his story. However, I've been told a lot that this series needs to be read in order, so I resisted the temptation to skip it. Surprisingly, I ended up loving Colin. He starts off a bit annoying because he's narcissistic and cocky, but over the course of the story you really begin to see how much he values the few friendships he has. Those friendships are quite old though and Colin hasn't really tried to form new ones a long time. This made watching him try to cultivate a relationship with Savi really fascinating to see. Brook has a knack show more for writing characters who stand a little outside of human society because of their age or what they are. That gap between him and human society really came across in some scenes. But Savi was the character who really stole the show. She's a computer genius who relies on her intelligence to get her out of the situations she finds herself in. When the book opens, she's having a very James Bond-ish moment in an airplane that made me love her almost instantly. However, she has her limitations and she's fairly aware of what they are. All in all, I really loved this installment of the series. show less
I had a hard time reading the previous book in the series, Demon Angel, because of some intense world building full of complex rules that demons, angels, vampires, hellhounds, nosferatu, and guardians must follow. I found it extremely confusing, but I was intrigued enough to keep reading and re-reading confusing passages until I sorted it out. I ended up doing some research on Brook's website (see The Primer) and online reviews with spoilers so that I think I figured things out. Fortunately, DM was much clearer and much easier to understand. The hero Colin is a 200 year old vampire who made this book worth reading on his character alone. He was made by a nosferatu and therefore cannot feed from other vampires so he feeds on humans. show more Colin is an extremely beautiful man and utterly vain and I was half in love with him myself. Savi is brilliant and fascinating and seemed to be a perfect match for him. The non-stop action kept me riveted to the story and I had a hard time putting it down. It's one of those books where you aren't sure how H/H could get their HEA, but they did and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Interesting, intelligent characters; even when they did stupid things, it made sense. Complex world building -- less overwhelming than in Demon Angel, but covers enough that I think newcomers to the series would be able to start here. The storyline was engaging, although I agree with other reviewers that there were a few too many redundancies and it seemed a bit overly-long (although at nearly 500 pages, I think my attention span would find almost anything overly-long). The romance was hot and angsty, but there was enough humor to balance the angst. Even though you know there's going to be an HEA, the "how" remains a mystery until the last few pages.

I feel like I'm complaining a lot, but I did really enjoy this book. It's moving to my show more keeper shelf and I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series. show less
The characters are attractive. Savi is smart, curious and refuses to brood. I appreciate that. Colin is complex, insecure and arrogant, with a heart of gold that he'd rather hide. Also, handsome, very handsome. Their attraction is interesting. Brook's worldbuidling is also interesting, and complex. I like books or series' with big story arcs, this is a part of the epic - though, in this case the complexity is often confusing. Not just the world building , but even in the action from scene to scene.
A good story - and with some adjustments it could have been really really good.
Demon Moon - Meljean Brook
Guardians, Book 4; Paranormal Romance; 9/10
I read Brook's first Guardians books a while back and while I really liked them while reading them, afterwards I found myself ambivalent about continuing the series. This book got very good reviews around the blogsphere and so did the next one, Demon Night, so I bought a copy of this one and put it on the TBR. I'm very glad I did as this is a wonderful book. I found Brook's world-building easier to follow this time and while I remembered next to nothing about the previous book, she dropped enough hints for me to pick up all the important points that were needed for this one. She still tended to leave some things kind of obscure, I suppose assuming the reader could show more figure it out. Some of the time I could, but other times I couldn't. The characters were all wonderful - it was lovely to see Hugh, Lillith and Sir Pup again. I loved the heroine, Savi and just adored the hero, Colin, despite (or perhaps because of) his many faults. Brook left me worrying right till the end that they wouldn't get their happy ending - quite a feat in for a book written in a genre where a HEA is pretty much guaranteed. A great book and the next one is now on the TBR. show less

Savitri has promised her grandmother she will settle down with a suitable boy. But what suitable boy wants a bride who finds herself battling demons and Nosferatu day after day? show more And then there is that pesky, undeniable desire she feels for that persistent vampire…

Demon Moon is the second book I have read in Meljean Brook’s The Guardians series. As with the first book in this series, I liked the lead characters, was intrigued by the plot, and was interested to see how the book finished. Also like the first book in this series, I found the pacing of the story to be extremely slow. In the first book, I had hoped that the slow pacing could be attributed to the world building that Brook had to accomplish to set up the series, but with this fourth edition of her saga, the world building is complete, for the most part.

I can’t say I didn’t like the story, because that simply isn’t true. I enjoyed The Guardians world enough, but the cumbersome pace has made me hesitant to read either the second or third books in this series, although both are novellas that are contained in anthologies which I already own. While I was interested in the story, it never quite gripped me, and I found myself distracted time and again by outside influences. Usually, I absorb so completely in a book that I block the world out, forgetting things like eating and sleeping until I have finished reading the book.

Ms. Brook has a wonderful imagination and the ability to develop some very intriguing characters. I definitely think she is an author I will want to pick up again in the future, after she has a few more novels under her belt.
