A pretty depressing one even for a dystopian but I couldn't stop reading. More character development and of course the male character is blind to his first love's flaws but the blinder is slowly coming off. His manipulations are really disturbing. He checks all the boxes: controlling- check, stalker tendencies- check, possessive as the devil- check, sexually demanding-check, morally dark grey- check. The mansplaining and I-know-better-than-you is infuriating but it's still hot when he's so demanding and controlling. I like the side characters a lot- especially Maryanne. There are a lot of mind games and it's hard to tell when the main character is lying to herself. I'm ready to read book three but decided I needed a few hours sleep lol

5+ Omegaverse Stars

Holy Hell I love Addison Cain and this Omegaverse world that she has created. Much like the first book in this series I was riveted. Life pretty much ceased to exist once I started reading. When I first started this series someone told me that it wasn't finished. I knew that I had to wait until they were all out before I proceeded any further. Finally, I was told that Claire and Sheppard were going to have a conclusion so I started the series again. Boy, oh Boy, how I managed to go months without reading this disfunctional, crazy, but hot as Satan's mistress couple I do not know.

Claire. Sweet holy hell. This girl is a fighter. I love her. Rather than just accept that she is a weaker person because she is an Omega she show more uses that to her advantage. There is no glass ceiling for her. She is playing the game and playing it well.

Sheppard. Despite the despicable things he has done he still has a softer side. That softer side is Sheppard. We learn more about his history in this book and what makes him the way that he is. He has demons and because of those things he yearns for that connection or human touch so to speak. He wants acceptance and adoration. He wants to be loved.

Together these two are HOT. Like 3rd degree blister hot. I want to see them happy. I want to believe that this relationship is real and not just some forced pair bond.

Off to read the third book. Looks like my life will be at a standstill again. Who needs a clean house or sleep anyway?!

Alphas and omegas

Born to be broken certainly didn't disappoint.
I started this book so epically angry at shepherds previous actions: in a word the idiotic gullible fool obviously doesn't realise when he's being played.
Just shows how absorbing and expertly written this book is that I could continue reading and still rate it so high as I did when this sort of behaviour is usually a complete no-no for me.
I like my anti-hero's to be loyal to a fault: even when they're at there most wicked.
So this book mainly deals with the consequences of shepherds actions and his attempts to woo Claire back to him.
We also see shepherd try to open up and be more transparent even slightly mellowing.
That's All I'm going to say on this other than do show more yourself a favour and pick this series up like yesterday.
This series is up there with my all-time favourites and considering how much I read that is a feat all in itself: cannot praise this authors work enough she just does it for me every single time.
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Since this book is the second of a trilogy, I'm just going to repeat my review here since it really covers the entire series.

This one is not for the faint of heart but if you like your sci fi romance gritty, if say you enjoyed [b:The Last Hour of Gann|18589656|The Last Hour of Gann|R. Lee Smith|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1380286253s/18589656.jpg|26331984], you would probably like this one. The hero is not a nice guy and he treats the heroine poorly. She is not a doormat or a pushover however. I'm not going to kid you. Bad things happen. But if you don't need your sci fi romance to be all sunshine and roses this is great stuff.

This is the second of a trilogy and you really need to read all three of them. I'd really consider it show more one long book. So the world building is excellent. There is no info dump. Just the farther you get into the story the more things become clear. The writing is in 3rd person mostly from the POV of the heroine. There is however quite a bit from the hero and some from various other characters. There is a lot more to this story than just the relationship between the hero (anti hero?) The writing style is immediate and you are drawn into the story quickly and deeply. The author does a great job of making you, throughout the 3 books really believe in the love of the two leads even after the way things start out between them but it does take all three books before the hero becomes someone you can like but he never becomes a "good guy". show less
Good News: The quality of this book is easily double that of the previous one.

Bad News: Two times zero is still zero.
Such a great second book in this series. The continued story between Shepard and Claire is just amazing. It goes all kinds of places I didn't expect it to. I'm so glad I read it, and I eagerly await the next parts of the story.
