The Lost Book of the White

The Lost Book of the White is a brilliant follow-up to The Red Scrolls of Magic, and a can't miss sequel that only gets better with each chapter. Avid fans of the Shadowhunters world will be offered new surprises to the stories they already love. The Eldest Curses are written in a way that anyone can enjoy the adventure, the humor, and the romance. The story progression shows the fan-favorite couple Alec and Magnus as parents to their son Max, but the adventure in their lives hasn't slowed down. Their son stays with Alec's mother while they traipse after the bad guys and battle against a demon prince. So many components of this story draw you in right from the beginning with the action as the return of Ragnor Fell shocks everyone. Big show more moments are woven throughout from Magnus being injured to Ragnor's return to a betrayal to taking a trip back to hell.

One of the strengths of the series is the humor which is a staple of Clare with every character that graces this world having a strong sense of what's funny. The dialogue is spot-on with fast-wit and clever retorts. Even the bad guys are hysterical with the demon prince and a demon from Magnus' past stealing the scene with their quippy dialogue. The new installment features several familiar faces as the couple teams up with their closest friends. This creates a fun reunion of favorites from Mortal Instruments and offers something new for each of the characters. The banter between them is always enjoyable and creates chemistry between the characters that shine.

that was... violently anticlimactic?

heres the thing: this one feels more like an actual book in the shadowhunter universe and less like a satire than The Red Scrolls. but also: its less fun. its so... serious. and tense. and is that what i really want? IT ISNT. i just want malec to be happy goddammit. are the issue My Expectations? its not unlikely. but i had them regardless, so thats that.

i had such a hard time advancing though, i felt like it dragged on FOREVER and then nothing ammounted to anything because NOTHING GOT RESOLVED. i know theres another book coming and they needed to set it up, but frankly? gimme SOMETHIN cassandra. gimme somethin to work with im begging u

another thing: was anybody going to tell me alec and magnus show more adopted a whole child or was i supposed to find that out through the synopsis myself? does tian appear in other books, in other series? i love him, can i kiss him?

heres one thing i liked: the Big Bad Guy. hes fun! i like fun villains. i like villians so bad that they dont care to show you that theyre bad. the tiny lil bad guy is a lot, tho, and theyre both unhinged in... different ways? im Concerned. but you know whos INCREDIBLE? elyaas, the tentacled demon. if i dont see nother appearence from him i will Scream.

see, i didnt HATE it. i just didnt feel very compelled to keep reading. if i got a little sleepy and had to put it down, oh well. wouldnt have pulled an allnighter for it. and thats not a good thing. also: a certain Someone should have been absolutely Furious about a Thing that Someone Else did. and he wasn't. and thats just very out of character.

but you know what? i liked seeing the whole band. they feel DIFFERENT in a way, though i know its been like 85 years since city of bones, so, maybe it makes sense. simon being a shadowhunter just... dont sit right with me. it also seems to have fucked him up in the head: very "i have made a shadowhunter" "you fucked up a perfectly good human is what you did. look at it. its got anxiety." vibes. i miss him being a vampire i am simply stuck in the past. isabelle is FINE and clary is still kinda useless, as a branding. jace herondale has my whole entire heart and always will.

this book is les quotable, less funny, less romantic, and overall less satisfying. i have literary blue balls. its more dramatic, it has more fight scenes (didnt love it), and at the end nothing really happens. also, people make stupid ass choices. i also caught more than a couple very gramatically questionable sentences? was... was this proofread? however: yes i will read the third because by now i am Invested and also, malec, and also, jace. me @ me: make it make sense.

This book was a miss for me.
I love these characters but for me it felt like the plot was seriously lacking. It felt like it was filler more than anything and it all felt kind of pointless. At least the Red Scrolls of Magic showed some nice growth of Magnus and Alec’s relationship. This one felt like a bunch of pointless fighting. The entire time I was like “Why should I care?” It felt like most of the events were just thrown in there to pad for time as there was really no consequence and any problems were all fixed too conveniently and easily. The only saving grace were the few moments involving Max and the brief backstories on how Magnus had met Ragnor and Catarina. Though speaking of Catarina I’m still confused as to how some show more mundanes got a hold of her in order to burn her at a stake?? She’s a warlock so you’d think she’d be able to magic her way out of it

Overall: One of my leave favorites of her work which is disappointing because I love Magnus and Alec. show less

I really did like this read. I actually prefer book 2 to the first book in this series. I really loved how we got the OG shadowunter gang back for this read. I also loved how to explored a time period that we have not seen before directly after simon time in the shadow hunter academy. I was much more invested in the mystery this time. This book def made me smile but it is also super funny. I really liked how this story built magnus and alec realtionship. I also like how this book forced Mangus to use a team and really loved the setting. I also really liked the villain and loved how magnus past was also at the heart of it. I can't wait for book 3.

Loved the ending of this book and I do hope that The Black Volume of the Dead is published in the next couple of year; mostly so I don't forget what has happened in the first two books.

I love Magnus and Alec together, they make such a lovely family and they don't let anything keep them down.

This deserves more than five stars because no duh its a Cassie Clare Book! I have been waiting ages! Malec has always been the best ship ever and we all know that I freaking love Magnus. After reading Bane Chronicles, I just wanted more! After reading Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, I kept wondering "What about Malec" I hate how this series is getting so much hate because if this is ongoing how does it matter? If you do not like it do not read it. Its fairly simple ya know? Listen, Life Goes On right? So why should these characters stop living? I want to know about Max and about Raphael. I want to know if they adopt more kids. I want to know what happens after Alec dies. Then I want another series about who Magnus ends up with show more after Alec dies. I ant to know if Magnus ends up with Alecs descendent. I want to know what happens ith Jace and Clary. I want a freaking Malec wedding. So by all means Cassie Clare keep on continuing for the next fifty years! Can we also talk about how Jace just cracks me up! Ahahaaahah.....CASSIE CLARE KEEP ON WRITING. show less
