I asked all my students what their favorite books are. I'm no surprised that a lot of them told me they don't like to read but a few of them told me they love this writer. It's not a surprise, he is very popular in this country. So i took this book (they say it's his best) and like... why?
Okay, so, the story itself is not bad. It's about what happens after we die, especially if we die in an accident. There are angels, dead who are now alive and for me that's the good part.
The characters are really boring, their love is really boring.
But the writing was so bad I was actually cringing the whole time. These sentences look like they've been picked up from every bad movie ever made and put together. It's like someone making a book just so it can be sold: mix a love story with angels and New York and cute kids and some mystery and make it as cliche as you can cause the readers don't like to think very much.
I felt like I don't need to think and I won't be thinking ever again. It was really bad.
I am glad that I've read it or else I could spend a part of my life thinking there must be something good about this much hype. For me there really isn't. ( )
