This is a story of Kevin the Koala who, despite encouragement, doesn't want to leave his tree and try something new. It seems too scary to him. When he is forced out of his tree, he learns that trying something new can be ok - even great. I liked this book for its growth mindset approach and would recommend it to primary students (K/1/2). It shows that it might be scary to try something new, but it can lead to good things. What kept it from a 5 star for me was that it didn't really go into much detail about the benefits he got from trying something new - just that he was happy and the pictures show adventures with friends. I would have liked more detail in this area that if you were using this for instruction, kids could use some of show more these ideas to brainstorm for a journal assignment about trying something new. Otherwise, I think the message is clear for kids about growth mindset. show less
Kevin the Koala liked to do what he knew best and what he knew best was sticking to his tree. His friends invited him to play and try new things all the time. Trying new things scared him, until one day an unfortunate event forced him out of his tree and out of his comfort zone. Now on the ground Kevin was no longer scared and his eye's were open to all the fun new things he could try. I love how this story has a great message for all. Stepping outside what may seem comfortable and trying new things can be really great.
This is a book about a koala who is a fraud to try new things. He never want to leave his tree. He just wants to stay up there and eat all day. He doesn't listen his friend when they ask him to come down. Then, one day his tree falls over and he is forced to try new things. He loves being with his friends. I love this book to talk about how scary change can be but also rewarding.
This book is a great book for teaching children that trying new things can be a wonderful adventure. In this book the Koala refuses to leave the tree that he know well and is comforted by. He refuses to join in the activities that other friends are asking of him. Until something unexpected happens and his is involuntarily unlatched from his tree.
This is a great book that teaches students that trying new things is sometimes the best thing you can do. This Fantasy adventure picture book is about a Koala bear named Kevin that never leaves the tree he calls home. He misses out on all kinds of opportunities because he never leaves his tree, but one day he finally does and has a wonderful adventure full of events that would of never happened if he had just stayed in his old tree. This book is wonderful for teaching kids that they should try new things to find out what is out their for them to discover. The world is full of things to be discovered, but they would never be found if they never stray from what they normally do every day.
A Koala named Kevin has always made his home in a tree, always completing the same routine day after day. He didn't like to try new things, so when animal friends kept asking him to come down and play, it made Kevin wonder about what it might really be like to get down from his tree and play. Would it be fun? Until, that is, he heard a tapping noise of a bird cutting down his tree. Will Kevin be safe down on the ground? Find out what happens to Kevin and his friends! The lessons learned in this book discuss bravery and trying new things.
This book is a great example for showing children that to trust in friendships. The koalas friend wanted to play and when koalas tree was falling down they help the koala land safe. This book teaches children to try new things, but also have fun with friends. Friendship is what helps many people try new things. This book is great for ages 2-6 years old.
