I LOVED SHADOW RIDER and I had a hard time getting into SHADOW REAPER, so I was very hesitant to read SHADOW KEEPER.

I will admit that Giovanni doesn't start out SHADOW KEEPER on the right foot. In fact, he was a total douche. The author tries to rationalize his behaviour, but really there isn't an excuse for it and I think this scene could have easily not been included and it would have made the book better. Looking past that Giovanni did grow on me. I liked Sasha from the moment she was introduced. She had her moments of irrational stubbornness that got herself and others in trouble, but I really enjoyed learning about her.

I absolutely love the Farraro family. I love their interactions and I love the way they support everyone. They are show more always such an integral part of each Shadows book and you can't help but root for each of them even when they aren't the main focus.

The stalker storyline of SHADOW KEEPER was both suspenseful and horrible at the same time. I couldn't imagine having to go through what the characters did in this book. The horror of knowing someone has been in your space and touched your things and is waiting for the perfect moment to do horrible things to you and those you love. Just horrible.

SHADOW KEEPER was a hit for me. I am once again excited to read what comes next.

Shadow Keeper continues the story of the Shadow Riders. These men and women can literally meld into the shadows! They can detect lies by crossing shadows with people. Its really unique and I love the world that Feehan has created with this series!

Sasha left the farm in Wyoming in order to get the best care possible for her brother. She is working 2 jobs to pay for his care facility but she would do anything for Sandlin. When she meets Giovanni, sparks fly. However, she doesn't have the best impression of the manwhore playboy. Giovanni isn't going to let that stand in his way. I liked that Giovanni wasn't really such a manwhore. It was a ruse created out of necessity and it was kind of brilliant in its simplicity. Before he can really show more get to know Sasha, they discover she has a super creepy stalker. This guy is deranged. It was ominous and really helped build the tension. However, the ending felt anticlimactic and a bit abrupt. All that lead up kind of fizzled.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but my biggest problem was the sex. I love the fated mates thing. That wasn't the problem. I struggle with how they went from strangers to kinky sex and how they had sex all the time. They didn't really talk about what was going on, they just had kinky sex with a few random comments about current events. I skimmed so many sex scenes. So many.

I loved the supporting characters and am really excited to continue reading about the Ferraro family. Feehan's Shadow Riders are fascinating and even with my issues in the book, I was totally caught up in this world of Shadow Keeper!

  • POV: 3rd

  • Tears: no

  • Trope: secret powers, fated mates

  • Triggers: Sasha's stalker does some pretty creepy stuff that might be disturbing to anyone who has had experience with stalkers

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series

  • Cliffhanger: no

  • HEA: yes

"Listened to audio narrated well by Jim Frangione. Giovanni plays the part of an entitled playboy, Sasha is a waitress at one of his family's clubs. She overhears him playing a disgusting game involving women. He feels their shadows connecting and has a lot to do to get in her good graces. While Giovanni tries to win Sasha over, Sasha acquires a stalker, that threatens not only her but those around her. Her shadow connects with Giovanni and he becomes utterly devoted to winning her over.

There's a lot of hot and heavy sex, dabbling in bondage and other kink, while interesting seemed a bit too soon to add to a new relationship not already defined by kink. I can't put my finger on why but I had a hard time sticking with this story. I show more stopped and restarted reading this over several months, finally finishing after getting access to the audio version. I think Jim Fangione's narration had a lot to do with me sticking with this book to the end. An okay read but it didn't really pull me in, it felt very flat. Even the brain damaged brother Sasha takes cares of felt like it was put in there as a story vehicle, it didn't feel authentic.

Meh. Sasha didn't excite me and I knew that Giovanni was going to go all alpha, cause that's her style. I'll be passing on the rest of this series. Going to give Torpedo Ink series a try, but don't really hold high hopes that her style will be different there. Guess I'm getting old!!
