The problem with "The Greatest Stories Never Told" is that I already knew about 95% of them. So it became almost tedious after a while as Beyer thinks he's setting me up for being astonished, bewildered and stupefied but instead fails 95% of the time (to be truthful, I wasn't overly astonished, bewildered and stupefied at the few stories I hadn't heard before either).
The stories cover the gamut of history, including the Peshtigo Fire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his old mate Gavrilo Princip, Annie Oakley shooting at the Kaiser, and Ho Chi Minh's Paris dishwashing stint. Those with less arcane knowledge of history may enjoy this more than me.

A real fun collection of easy-to-read ditties about some of the more obscure events and personalities in history. The chronological order works well. Heck, I never knew Hedy Lamarr was practically a rocket scientist!
I quite liked this easy to read book. Each story is one short page, with little details and pictures on the other page. Some of the stories I was familiar with to some extent, others were completely new revelations. This is a great book to have around when you just want a few minutes to read something, and even then, it will be completed pretty quickly.
I added titles from the defunct Common Reader catalog to my to-read list ages ago and finally thought to request them from the library. This was a good book to read in a distracted environment (a restaurant and a hospital waiting room). It was popular history, not reliably accurate but amusing.
230 little known American and World History stories written in one or two pages. Enough of a "tidbit" of history to encourage further research on the subjects surrounding Heroes and Villains, Successes and Failures, Inventions and Discoveries, Politics in Action, and Twists of Fate.
Currently reading this one as a brain relaxer from hard days at class. It's very interesting, some of the stories I already knew, being a history geek and all.If you are a history teacher, it is a great addition to a classroom library and may build interest among reluctant readers. Also it makes a lovely coffee table book.
tidbits about lots of obscure historical happenings--not enough for a report, but does have some things that you can't find anywhere else.
