Darker

Holy. Shit.
If you think Christian is psychotic, violent, angry, and controlling in the main trilogy, just WAIT until you get a first-row pass to his inner thoughts. E. L. James obviously knows NOTHING about human nature, because someone as extremely broken (mentally) as Christian will NOT be made better by the a savior woman nor by the child they have at the end of book three. Fuck E. L. James for unleashing this grossly unhealthy "romance" on the world.

Ebbene sì lettori miei, l'ho detto e l'ho fatto.
Sapete che sono una lettrice curiosa e quindi non mi sono tirata indietro davanti all'uscita di Darker perché checché se ne dica dobbiamo solo a E.L. James la sdoganazione di questo genere nel nostro paese. Poi può non piacere, ma è indubbio che prima di 50 Sfumature il romanzo erotico (non necessariamente BDSM) era relegato alla collana Harmony.
Constato ciò, veniamo al libro.

Come ho già detto in altri post, a me la serie di 50 Sfumature all'epoca era piaciuta e, dei tre, Cinquanta Sfumature di Nero era quello che mi era piaciuto di più.
Poi è uscito Grey. E sì, non aggiungeva niente alla storia di per sé, ma a me era piaciuto molto più di Cinquanta Sfumature di Grigio e di show more conseguenza mi aspettavo una gamma di emozioni simili anche in questo.
Purtroppo Darker non è stato all'altezza delle aspettative, già basse di per loro.

Questa è gelosia. Ecco come ci si sente: svuotato e sanguinante dentro, del tutto privo di autocontrollo. Non mi piace. Non mi piace affatto.

Il libro si fa leggere senza alcun problema, infatti come i libri precedenti è scorrevole e benché le scene siano una ripetizione del pov di Ana hanno un loro perché viste dal punto di vista del nostro dominatore.
Quindi cos'è che non mi ha convinta?
Beh, a dire la verità è stato proprio Christian.
In tutta onestà non ho riletto Grey, quindi non ricordo se la cosa era uguale anche in quel volume, ma in questo il nostro protagonista pare soffrire di personalità multipla.
Tutti facciamo monologhi con noi stessi, ma nel caso di Christian Grey in Darker la cosa si riduce a:
«Mi lascerà.»
«Non può lasciarmi.»
«È ancora qui.»
Queste tre battute ci sono più o meno in ogni pagina, a grandi linee così come ve le ho scritte e no, non distribuite nella pagina, ma tutte insieme.
Christian ripete queste tre battute infinite volte per tutto il libro.
Se per una prima metà il libro mi stava anche piacendo e mi coinvolgeva nonostante il loop mentale del nostro protagonista, da metà in poi mi sono ritrovata a sbuffare.
Com'è possibile che in Cinquanta Sfumature di Nero il mio pensiero fosse "Oh, che bello, la caratterizzazione di Christian è ampliata" a "Dove sono i pensieri di Ana sulla sua dea interiore?" ?

Abbasso lo sguardo su Ana. Ha le labbra socchiuse e le ciglia disegnano ombre sottili sulle guance pallide. È serena, bellissima, e io potrei stare a guardarla per sempre.
Ma a volte sa dare davvero del filo da torcere.
Chi l’avrebbe mai detto?
E il lato ironico è che… credo che mi piaccia.
Lei fa sì che io mi metta in discussione.

Darker non è un brutto libro, piacerà sicuramente alle amanti della serie, ma a chi - come me - si aspettava qualcosa in più, lascerà sicuramente un po' di amaro in bocca. show less

Although I sat and read this book in one sitting and missed out on more than a few hours sleep I am a little disappointed with this book. I was expecting and hoping for a lot more from Christian’s side of the story. It would have been nice to have gone more in-depth his mind and his past and flesh out his relationship to Elenor (Mrs Robinson!) instead of just covering what we already know from Fifty Shades Darker. And I’m almost sure some of it is identical to that book, except with “straining erections” instead of “wet and throbbing” And in Miss Steels words their wasn’t any new revelations about Christian’s “kinky fuckery”

I think i was expecting his side to be darker and that he would be cold and hard just like he show more was portrayed in the earlier books. But this book shows his softer side without very many shades! But then, that could just be how i perceived his character in my own head maybe?

As with the other books you can’t overly analyse this fictional relationship as it is wrong on so many levels, Domineering/Abusive, Love/Obsession to name a few and I know the originals caused many a heated debate among book clubs and i am sure this book will provide a few more hours of debate.

But I really quite enjoyed it

Although it sounds like all I have done is criticise this book, taken on a pure fictional basis I really did enjoy it, although the lack of sleep is no catching up with me now! I have no doubt that this book will be as successful as its original and anyone who enjoyed the books the first time around or are in need of a Fifty Shades fix, this will hit the spot 🙂 show less

Exactly what I needed it to be. I will say that Christian's perspective eliminates Anna's terrible subconscious voice, and is therefore preferable. These are books I wish I hated, but which I enjoy. I may be a woman of less substance than I like to think. Oh well.

The writing was still not the best, especially all those repetitive annoying inner-monologue self reassurance the author always have her characters use. But I have to admit that with all that I did enjoy the fluffiness of the story and having a hard time getting into anything lately I guess I needed something like this right now. So yes, I liked it, being in Christian's head was not as grating as being in Ana's and just maybe James' writing might be improving. At least from Christian's perspective, he is her creation and it shows James knows her character well.

This second book in the series has always been my favorite for the character development and twists in the story, and I ended up liking this Christian-centric book because we got more insight into scenes that Ana wasn’t present for, particularly the Mrs. Robinson stuff.

Ooh, I’m still so in love with this series. I loved the stories when it was Ana telling them but now, when I get to know what’s going on inside Christian’s head, it’s even more addicting. I seriously hope that I will someday have someone loving me as much as he loves Ana.
All in all, this book gave even more detail into how Christian sees it all and it truly helps me understand his actions. I can’t wait to read the final book as told by Christian. Love, love, loved this book!
