This is a housekeeping volume, mopping up after the last major story arc while setting up elements for the next, but damn if it wasn't one of my favorite volumes in a while. For so long, we've just seen the characters reacting in the moment to awful, sudden and violent acts. It was refreshing to actually see the characters processing the consequences of recent developments and interacting with one another in conversations aren't shouted while under attack from zombies or other enemies. It helped me remember that I actually like some of these people. I wouldn't mind another volume of the same before the next Big Bad comes down the road.
I was so excited this one was on Hoopla for check out at the library! I stayed up until late finishing this one. There were so many character stories in this one, including introduction of new characters. I'm not sure about the new character Michonne's group encounters and allows to tag along. I don't know if she is funny or crazy. I do have my suspicions about Negan with this ending. Never trust him...
Something that actually made me happy is Jesus and Aaron finally getting together, and it’s pretty serious, judging by the lovesick faces and, you know, i-love-yous and stuff. You know what would’ve made it even better? Some smoochin’. Just saying.
After the white knuckle ride of Vol 28, Kirkman's back to world expansion and character building again, which is never a bad thing. I enjoy the hell out of the action volumes, but I also really enjoy the nuance of these volumes, and this one is no exception. Rick, Dwight, and toward the end, Negan all get some spotlight, and in each case, it's illuminating.
Such a great series.

Some interesting turns in this one. I'm starting to wonder if I need to wait until the larger volumes come out before I read on. I don't seem to retain what's in these shorter collections as well. I'm intrigued by the new group, and Princess seems fun. I'm a little bored with Rick and Dwight's drama and I'm worried about the Sophia-Lydia rivalry that's brewing (mainly because I don't know if Sophia will survive it). I'm not sure what to think of Negan's story, but I'm curious to see where it goes.
I looked back at some previous volumes and its amazing how many different plot threads with separate groups are running in this volume compared to early on. Not surprising - after 28 volumes of development I expect more complexity, but it means a lot of bouncing back and forth.
Some of the plot developments were really human and satisfying, especially Neegan and Sophia.

Liked this one a lot. Nice character interactions, fascinating plot development. Man, a lot happened in this volume. P. S. I still don't get Negan.
