There are very few foreign language books that I've purchased, some because I'm on vacation in a foreign place and want something unique, and some because of the visual information that accompanies the text. This book on Dogon art and architecture in Mali falls into the latter camp. The book is written in German and exhibits the thorough technical documentation one can expect from that country, evident especially in the drawings that document the earthen buildings and settlements. Photographs of buildings, art and the people of the Dogon villages round out the book's visual documentation. As much as I wish the book were translated into English (as far as I know it isn't), the images convey enough information that much can be learned show more without reading the text. show less
