April Pulley Sayre has an amazing talent. The photographs in this book are absolutely stunning! This book could reside on any coffee table and constantly be picked up and admired by any nearby adult. You could easily look past the preschool level text that accompanies each photograph and just become entranced with these snapshots of the wonders of nature. This book is, however, intended for a younger audience and so that is who I shared it with.
From one of the opening photos, an aerial shot looking down where the land meets the sea and the words, "Dear Earth," printed on top, to the equally stunning closer photo of a sunset near a sandy and rocky shore, Sayre's artistry is exquisite and truly makes the reader appreciate the little show more wonders of our world that we often take for granted.
While my children just loved listening to all the "thank yous" to the flowers and insects, I became almost hypnotized by the beauty captured in each photograph. I also loved the fact that Sayre chose to stretch each photo so span the entire page. Why waste space on borders and margins when these photos are so astounding? And in case you wanted a little more, Sayre includes an "not from the author" section that explains how you can send thank you notes to our planet. Beautiful photographs to accompany a sweet little read to encourage young readers (and even older ones) to appreciate our wonderful world.

The photographs in this book are absolutely stunning, and I was immediately drawn in. I enjoyed how the book was written in the form of a letter to the Earth, which is not only a great way to introduce students to letter writing, but show them everything the world has to offer.

I think children will get sucked in by the bright, detailed photographs, which will show them parts of the world they may not have encountered before. I honestly think that the photographs are the books best attributes, and would still be captivating without the text. However, the letter does add to the effectiveness show more of the poems.

Overall, I do not see this book as anything more than a fun read, and I did not necessarily enjoy the way it was set up.

Such a simple text but also so impactful. This would be perfect for kindergarten and even first graders because it is easy enough to understand and for them to comprehend. This book encapsulates the beautiful creation that is Earth and how thankful we should be for the planet that we live on. It offers us so much.
With full-page pictures and simple one-sentence text per page, this is a great book to initiate the Earth Day feeling of appreciation for our planet and all its creatures.
Simple text that are various thank you's to the Earth, each displaying photography of the Earth. Due to the simple text and content this would be great for kindergarten or first grade on Earth day. The class could then write their own thank you letters.
A beautiful love letter that encapsulates the beautiful creation that our world is.
