This book may be written for the middle grade level readers but I too enjoyed this book. In fact, you could say that I was absolutely over the moon in love with this book.

Bob is great. Everyone needs a Bob in their lives. I loved that while Livy was more grown than when she left Bob five years ago; she was not above playing with childish items including Bob. Although, Bob is not like a stuffed animal that a child plays with and forgets.

While there was no interaction between Livy's grandma and Bob; I kind of have a feeling that she was aware of him. The authors do a great job of telling this story. There are not a lot of huge words used; therefore, it makes it easy for the younger readers to read this book on their own with little show more intervention from adults. Bob will always hold a special place in my heart. This book is an absolute pure delightful read! show less

"All I did for five years was remember, and all she did was forget." - Bob, speaking about Livy

Livy is an eleven year old girl, and Bob? Well, Bob is a 'zombie' that is short, has green skin, and no hair. In a chicken suit. Believe it or not, this is a touching, sweet story of friendship. A genuinely enjoyable tale that I can't wait for my daughter to read! I don’t think I’ll look at a well without thinking about this book!

Cool factor - Little Free Library mentioned on page 210! My family has one!

“Bring licorice.”
Livy and her family have come back to Australia to visit her grandmother. She has not been to see her in five years. Five years ago Livy was so young she does not really remember the last visit but some memories start to come back especially about a funny chicken?? It just so happens that “funny chicken” has been hiding in her old bedroom closet for five years waiting for Livy to help him find out who he is, what he is, and where he belongs.

Bob called out to me immediately. The beautiful cover and well... the title of course. I loved the back and forth chapters of Livy narrating one and then Bob the next. The character Bob was adorable I felt so bad that he waited so long for her in that closet. Especially after finding out that show more grown-ups couldn’t see him. Poor little Bob. I also liked the fact that it sort of explains why Livy forgot and what she did to not forget again. Such a cute book!

In a few reviews, I see that some were disappointed with Bob because they have read some of the other books the authors have written and this was different. I think when it is realized that this is a book for juveniles on the younger part of the spectrum than the book more enjoyable. Don’t expect this story to have a moral. Just a little comforting and entertaining read.

I would say the age spectrum is baby to 8 or 9 years. The younger ones will love this as you read it aloud. It’s cute and not really scary. Bob has a place in my heart for sure.

This is quite a delightful fantasy perfect for those who are new to the genre or not wanting high fantasy. It is told from two points of view in alternating chapters. Livy, a 10-year-old American girl, is visiting her Grandmother in Australia, having last visited when she was 5. Bob, described as a short, greenish creature, has been waiting for her since that visit in the closet, where she told him to hide. Livy, it turns out, has no memory of him. There is an background story about a drought punishing the area where Gran lives. The characters that populate this story are quite enjoyable to meet. A very fine story.
what a fun little story about friendship and memory, with a little dabble into the fantastical. it's a really enjoyable read and a nice introduction for my kiddo into telling stories with multiple points of view. the writing is humorous and light, even when some heavier themes are addressed. i might have liked it even more if they'd gone just a little deeper into both the heavier and the lighter themes, but i really liked this and my kid thought it was great. i've already read a different rebecca stead, but hadn't read wendy mass before; i am sure i will be reading them both again soon.
Light, and sweet, and exciting, and funny. 'Instant Classic' sort of thing that I hope reluctant readers will have fun with. Main character is a girl so it covers boys, girls, and all kinds of kids who have insights, wisdom, smarts... but not advanced reading skills.
Each of Rebecca Stead’s books differ from the other in all but their surprises she embeds in them. Bob, Stead’s latest, oozes charm — not in a cloying way, but in a way sure to enthrall children and their parents alike.

Bob has been waiting a long, long time — five long years, in fact — in Olivia’s grandmother’s closet. Livvy visited her grandmother’s Australian ranch five years ago, and she had completely forgotten the green and big-hearted creature she’d left, promising she’d be back soon. Now Livy is back, and she determines to make it up to Bob and keep her promise to reunite him with his family. But how can she do this when she doesn’t know where he came from — or even what Bob is. I won’t spoil this show more slender gem by giving away any more except to say that readers will love every minute.

In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley. Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and Feiwel & Friends in exchange for an honest review.
