The Sugarhouse Blues

Wow! I really enjoyed reading this book! It is my first book by this author and I loved it! The Sugarhouse Blues is charming and well written and the characters feel like good friends. There were a few times I just wanted to dive into the conversations. Definitely pick this book up! The Sugarhouse Blues is a sweet small town romance that will leave you wanting more of the sisters the story is about!

After meeting an aunt that was kept secret from them by Fritz, Three estranged sisters brought together through their father’s last wishes begin renovations funded by a trust set aside by their father. When a smooth operation hits a few snags, it is clear the process is going to be more tedious and time consuming than the sisters originally show more thought. As they spend more time together, the sisters begin to grow closer and find their strengths alone as well as with one another.

Fritz Hudson left his three daughters a fortune, on condition that they return to his hometown and refurbish the family theater, the Sugarhouse. Allie and Des were never close, and half-sister Cara comes as a complete surprise to them, so they have relationships to renovate as well. In the few months since his death, they have made good progress, both on the theater and on becoming true sisters. But the money he set aside for the theater is not enough, and they find themselves having to scramble.

Middle sister Des is the viewpoint character in this second volume. As she works to save the project, she also finds herself growing closer to the town mayor, although Seth is very much not her type. In addition, she misses her home in distant show more Montana and the dog rescue work that she did there.

Despite the romance, this is not quite a romance novel. The focus is more on the sisters and their relationships with each other, their newly found aunt, and themselves.

Book two of the Hudson Sisters book focuses on Des.
The story is about three sisters, oldest is Allie, then Des and Cara is the youngest sister that they didn’t know existed until book one. Their father left them an old movie theatre, they have to restore the theatre before they can have their inheritance. The intention seems to be that he wanted the girls to spend time together and with the aunt they never knew.

Book one focused on Cara, a very likable character.
But I might be partial to Des because she’s the animal lover of the group.
The sisters are all living Hidden Falls while restoring the theatre. For Des, it is hardest to be away from her shelter.
But soon she is helping the local animals too.
She’s also falling for a guy that show more doesn’t seem like her type but he’s always the one she calls when she needs help. After trusting him with the care of two rescue dogs, she starts to realize her feelings.

A bit of progress is made on the theatre but more progress is made between the sisters. Des and Allie finally discuss the drama that’s been there for years.

I enjoyed this book but I did like the first book better. Sometimes it’s hard to be the middle book in a series, it’s not beginning the story and it’s not closing it. It’s building up some progression but it’s rarely by favorite in a series. Although I’m assuming book three will exist and it will be about my least favorite sister Allie, I imagine it will be the one to wrap the story up neatly.

Assuming there will be a third, I’m sure I’ll read it.

The focus on the second book in this trilogy is on the middle daughter and her changing relationship with her family and her best friend. As she helps with the renovation of the theater that her late father left them, she immerses herself into the small town and her changing relationship with the mayor/best friend.

Overall it was a book. Wanted more information about the mayor, but that's a personal preference of mine. I also liked the heroine, the niece, and the dogs. I got annoyed at the eldest sister but I hope she's better in her own book, the last of the trilogy. If it wasn't for her, I would have enjoyed the story more.

What a cute book. I'd call it chick lit.

I've read many books about sisters and this one was really good. Three sisters (one by another mother which I didn't read) are all together in a little town in PA to restore their family theater and live in a house with their aunt according to a stipulation in their father's will.

There's Des (the main character in this 2nd book of the series) who was a childhood actress and lives in a small Montana town who helps out in a dog shelter, Allie, the snobbish one, who always resented Des because she wanted to be an actress and then there is Cara, the down to earth sister who's mother was the 2nd wife of the others father.

I love how they work well together on show more restoring the theater and how their personal lives play out with the men of this town.

On a personal note, since it's a small town in PA, the closest cities were Scranton and Clarks Summit, Scranton being my hometown.

Can't wait for Allie's story coming next year. show less

This is a wonderful romance. This is book two in the series and they you just keep getting better. It would be hard to move to a new town to earn an inheritance and even harder to find out you have a half sister you knew nothing about. This book was leaning towards Des but you get to know more about each sister and Barney, the aunt. I didn’t want to put this book down. I received a copy of this book fromGallery books for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

The Hudson sisters are back still trying to renovate the old movie theater that was left to them by their father in his will which included several very strange surprises. And in this book, the surprises about their father just keep on coming.

The sisters have had a setback occur regarding the fresco ceiling of their beautiful theater. A major setback which has them trying to figure out how they are going to handle this new problem.

Allie and Des are still at each other though in a sisterly way and there is a mystery about their father that unfolds, as well.

And, are one or two of the sister's falling for the small town of Hidden Falls? Sisters all from different states and locales brought to this small town as their father's last wish. Or show more is it someone they are falling for?

The continuing saga, while not as full of surprises as the first book, does muster several more from the secrets still waiting to unfold.

A really good series that I am truly enjoying.
