For the most part, I enjoy novels by Nora Roberts. "True Betrayals", in my opinion, is one of her better endeavors. The book was originally published in 1995, so it's one of her earlier works. One of the main characters, Kelsey Byden, finds herself recently divorced with no clear direction in life. She's attempting to find some meaning in her life, when she receives a letter from her mother. Kelsey's world turns upside down, as she was led to believe that her mother was deceased. Her mother, Naomi Chadwick, had spent all those years in prison, for the murder of her lover. Kelsey is curious and decides to visit Naomi at her horse farm in Virginia. Kelsey never expected to bond with her mother and to find love with Gabe, her mother's show more gambling next door neighbor. She decides to quit her job and move to her mother's farm. Numerous mysteries start to unfold, and the plot continues with lots of ups and downs.
If you've missed this gem, I would definitely at it to your tbr list!

Kelsey Byden signed her divorce papers and learned her long-dead mother wasn't dead on the same day. Torn between pleasing the only family she's ever known and finding out more about the mother she never has, Kelsey takes the plunge. Her mother's Virginia horse farm proves surprisingly intriguing - as does her mother, and her mother's handsome neighbor. But sometimes the past has a way of coming back to haunt the present, and when a groom turns up dead and a horse drugged, suspicion mounts and why?

Roberts takes fewer liberties with the sport of kings than I expected. Hadn't read this one in a long time, but found it just as enjoyable as ever.
Kelsey Byden always believed that her mother is dead, now, as an adult she discovers that indeed her mother is alive and was in jail for murder. Kelsey goes to meet her mother and meet some of her demons. When the truth starts to unfold is she prepared for what that will say about her. Along the way she meets Gabe, will she be able to live with his past as well.

Perhaps slightly too long it's still an interesting Nora Roberts romp.

I hated, hated, hated Grandma Byden. Other than that, it was a good story, some nice intrigue.

This story was okay but got into so many horse racing details that I started skimming. The plot was interesting but the amount of bad things happening was a bit too much and stretched belief. Kelsey learns her mother is alive and visits her mothers horse farm where she meets neighbor Gabe.
Good not great. Fairly typical contemporary romance.
