Kid readers who truly feel the ache of not fitting in at school, who really don’t have friends, who haven’t found their niche, I’m thinking they might find this resolves a little too easily and end up feeling like this character they initially related to, doesn’t necessarily share in their problems as much as it seemed she did.

But this is an enjoyable read. The illustrations are cute and colorful, I love that Olive had family to talk to and who listen to her, its inspiring to see her think outside the box for the talent show, and while in the end her problems may not have been as dire as they initially seemed, this certainly does capture what it feels like to be left on the sidelines, the anxiety, and the longing to be a part show more of things. show less
Such a cute book! Am I biased because I read this after my kid did, making me feel particularly connected to it? Or because as a middle-aged Spanish learner, I was proud of myself for making it through this story in another language? Yes and yes!
But I also liked how it shows that sometimes you can have plenty of friends but still be left out of things. And as a performer I of course love to read about a young person finding that side of themselves.
Very obviously targeted toward elementary school readers, this is a very effective story about a fifth grader dealing with cliques, the feeling of being left out, and the desire to fit in. I saw on the last page a second volume is already planned, so I've put it on hold it at the library.
Olive is the kind of kid who gets along with everyone. She has a group of friends she sits with on the bus, a different group she eats with in the cafeteria, and another group she plays with at recess. What she doesn't have is a specific best friend. And this hasn't been an issue . . . until the fifth grade variety show comes along, and everyone seems to have a group act, except for Olive. She doesn't want to have to ask to be included in someone's group, and she really doesn't want her mom to call her friends' parents and fix things that way. It isn't until a weekend visit with her cool Aunt Molly that something clicks, and Olive realizes what she really wants to do in the variety show.

This delightful graphic novel is another lovely show more exploration of middle-grade friendship, and the drama that can exist even when things are going well. Recommended to fans of Shannon Hale's Real Friends and other realistic middle-grade graphic novels that focus on friendship. show less

Cute, straightforward story with engaging personalities and illustrations. Olive takes awhile to find her place in the 5th grade variety show, because she's friends with everyone. There's not a lot of plot depth, here, or complexity, but it's a really pleasant narrative. Would be a great book for kids who aren't quite ready to tackle Telgemaier, but who are attracted to those books.
Click is a very enjoyable and relatable middle grade graphic novel about finding one's place in a world where everyone else seems to have their own special "thing". Olive is one of those kids that gets along with everyone, but when the time comes to put together an act for the school variety show, she feels left out, as her friends group up with others to do their own thing. What is Olive's talent, and are her friends really her friends if they don't ask her to join their group?
Click is an excellent book for middle grade readers. It touches on delicate subjects like fitting in, being yourself, and being a good friend. I highly recommend.
Sweet middle grade GN. I love how Olive has normal friendships with boys and girls, and how the author shows such a loving family life (while still showing some normal conflicts). Great story - I'm looking forward to reading the next Olive story.
