I didn't go to the prom. I didn't go to the Senior Ball either, or the Homecoming Dance or any of the others. In fact, high school is a time best forgotten as far as I'm concerned. Middle school was much more fun. I went to every dance. College, well, what happens in college, stays in college. But, I have chaperoned three proms in my life, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with them.

Finding that one special dress can be big deal. Sometimes it's more important than finding a date. Of course without a date, the dress stays in the closet.

That's what happened to Nicolette Antonovich. Two days before the prom, the hottest guy in school dropped her. Turns out he was just asking her to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. It worked. He took her to show more the prom and Nicolette got stuck at home with her perfect dress. This all happened before the novel begins. The novel is a comic look at what happens over the next year. Nicolette makes her way through Junior year, tries to reconnect with her estranged father, gets to know her new sister, thinks she might just have a chance with the hottest guy in school after all and finds her best friend's older brother is not just some dork who drives them to the mall, but a pretty terrific guy.

Top Ten Uses for and Unworn Prom Dress probably qualifies as junior chick-lit since it's written for the young adult set. (I would comfortably recommend it to girls in grades 7 through 10, maybe 11.) But I found it rose above its genre. It's got a touching story to tell, (several of them in fact,) a positive outlook on high school life, a fun sense of wit, good characters and an entertaining plot. It's a book that looks like it's just going to be a fun read, but turns out to have something real to say in the end. And it's very well written to boot. I'd like to see more books like it.

Sophomore year, Nicolette Antonovich was dumped two days before prom by the hottest guy at school. As a result, she became the proud owner of one unworn, perfectly magical pink vintage dress. But Nic is determined to put that night behind her for good. She's a junior now— older, wiser, and completely overwhelmed by a new set of (1) The bank's ready to foreclose on her childhood home. (2) Her father's too busy with his "replacement" daughter to care. (3) Her best friend's brother is an eternal thorn in her side. (4) Her best friend isn't exactly the rose attached to that thorn. (5) Rumors are flying around school that could get her kicked off the volleyball team, which would (6) ruin all chances of a college scholarship. (7) She still show more likes the boy who dumped her in the first place. (8) And what in the world do you do with an unworn prom dress, anyway? Strangely, it's getting to the bottom of this last dilemma that just might hold the answer to all Nic's problems. show less
Nicolette, a sophomore, is still reeling from being dumped by her date for the prom. Okay, so she was a stand-in for the jerk's out-of-town girlfriend, so she maybe should have known better, but she found the PERFECT dress. And therein lies the rub.

This is a light & fluffy read with a totally predictable plot and somewhat shalllowly developed characters, but who cares? It's a fun read, prefect for the beach or a day when you need a pick-me-up.
While I like a light fluffy read, there was just something about the almost too high school setting in this that turned me off within the first few chapters. I liked that Nic had to deal with stuff that most teenagers don't; asking her dad to help her save her house. But the whole prom dress thing was a little too much for me. I wouldn't have kept the dress like Nic did, especially after the way Rascal dumped her as his prom date.
The almost childlike tension between Nic and her best friend Alison's brother Jared, was boring and so predictable. Of course she only saw him as an older brother, but you just knew that he felt different and that eventually she would see that. And then you insert Rascal ( the original dumper in the story), of show more course he has a thing for Nic too, now that is stuck up girlfriend is back and he thinks that Nic may be an easy conquest.
And as predicted Alison, has an issue with her best friend dating her brother, but it is quickly resolved; almost within the same chapter ( not very likely in the real world). Though the book leaves alot to be desire for me, I am sure that others will enjoy the light way that Ferraro writes and the way that Nic deals with the high school drama. This wouldn't be a book that I would hand to a young teen as it does involve sexual tension, but it also deals with a few things that may make sense to an older teen in today's world.

Nicolette was dumped two days before the prom, just after she bought her beautiful, non refundable prom dress. So now it is hanging on the back of her door reminding her that she never got to wear the perfect dress to prom. But Nicolette has a whole new set of problems this year. The bank is ready to foreclose on her home, her best friend is acting strange, and there are rumors flying around that could get her kicked off the volleyball team. And what do you do with the perfect prom dress that you never got to wear? Especially when you’re not quite over the guy who dumped you in the first place.

This was a totally fun fluff read. The major parts of the plot are predictable, but there are minor pieces that are totally were unexpected. show more And it was fun getting to the finish. There were lots of laughs and snickers along the way. show less

This book is all about a lonely girl who tries to get a guy she likes. I think that is the most common thing in teens girls books. Usually a girl who no one likes who tries to get the cutest guy but then he would probably have a girlfriend who is the hottest girl in school. Thats how it usually goes. This is kinda the same but very mysterious. I would reccomend this book to teenage girls but only from the age of 14-16 maybe. 12 and 13 is to young. Well, i dont even remeber if i read these kinds of books in 6th or 7th grade.
