I received a copy of this book as a part of a BookishFirst giveaway.

Set in the Disney-Star Wars universe (as opposed to the Expanded Universe), this middle-grade book focuses on Lando Calrissian. At least, it should have. He felt more like a supporting character in his own story. That isn't to say the main character (Rinetta) wasn't well-developed or interesting in her own right, just that the book should have had her name in the title.

Its connection to the new series is yet to be clarified. The prologue and epilogue featured a sequel trilogy character, but again, the full connection hasn't yet been made clear, indicating more stories to come.

Overall, I wish the book had featured and developed Lando more. I do hope to see Rinetta in show more future Star Wars books and possible TV series and movies because she is definitely an interesting character. show less
Lando Calrissian, with plenty of galaxy navigating expertise from his little droid friend, L3-37, is enjoying his usual gambling wins against Lynn Zel Gris when her fur suddenly changes colors. This warning doesn't come in time for them to escape and both end up prisoners of the Queen of Hynestia. Lando is spared a horrifying death once he agrees to take a stolen artifact to The Empire as payment from the planet Hynestia.

Rinetta, the Queen's daughter cleverly hides with Lando and L3 as their ship, The Millennium Falcon, takes off. The plot gets fairly confusing and Lando's half-hazarding, goofy personality doesn't really draw readers in to caring about the outcome.

The plot also takes sinister turns with mentions of torture and show more death.
This is not for young or YA readers.

Star Wars fans will enjoy Lando’s Luck. It tells the story of a young Lando Calrissian and his smuggling adventures with his sidekick, a droid named L3-37 on the Millennium Falcon. Lando owes people money and he thinks he has a great scheme which backfires and then he is asked by a stowaway who happens to be a princess to make a trip to a distant planet and all hell breaks loose. Lando doesn’t get a break. Does he stay true to himself or help the young girl? Even if you are not a Star Wars fan, this is a fun science fiction novel that is easy to read. There are also some beautiful drawings pictures that separate the chapters. It was enjoyable, but had hoped to see other characters from the series.

Star Wars: Lando’s Luck (Flight of the Falcon, #1) by Justina Ireland is the first of two installments on the Flight of the Falcon series. (Look for the book review for the second installment in a bit.)

Star Wars: Lando’s Luck, the first book in the Flight of the Falcon series, brings us on an exciting adventure with none other than the galaxy’s most charming gambler, Lando Calrissian. Written by Justina Ireland, this middle-grade novel is a fast-paced, action-packed story that explores Lando’s life as a rogue pilot, highlighting his wit, cleverness, and occasional brushes with morality.

As the inaugural book in the show more Flight of the Falcon series, it sets the tone for what readers can expect: engaging characters, high-stakes missions, and the legendary Millennium Falcon at the center of it all.
