A collection of seven fine "Rumpole of the Bailey" stories, a few of which appear in other collections. The final title story, "Rumpole On Trial", is particularly droll, in which Rumpole finally crosses a line in his courtroom objections to the jury-swaying remarks of Judge "Ollie" Oliphant, and is subjected to disbarment inquiries.
I love the Rumpole stories. "The wonderful part about the decline of Western civiliation is that it provides so many opportunities for humour."
Mortimer is a genius and Rumpole is my favorite solicitor!
