Delayed Justice (Hidden Justice)

We live in a world where children are abused everyday. They live in fear of their abuser because they have been threatened and terrified. This book deals with child abuse ; which for me is one of the hardest subjects to read. I am one of many who lived in a house where child abuse happened on a daily basis to me. There was no one to tell and I lived in fear for my life. I prepared myself to think I could plow through the book with little feelings. Oh how I was wrong.

The author writes with authority and gives details of abuse just enough that readers can understand how far the abuser went. She doesn't need graphic details to let us know that horror filled Jamie's life starting at the age of eight. This innocent child was at the mercy of show more someone who others would never suspect. That was one of the hardest things to grasp for me. A family member took the innocence from a child and no one knew. The author does an excellent job of showing us how the trauma from Jamie's childhood has affected her as an adult. It is not easy for her to let anyone get close to her. It's like having a brick wall built around you. The dynamics of her relationship with her parents is fractured at best.

The battle she takes on is nothing short of a David vs Goliath story. I held my breath as the news spread of the impending charges being filed . Jamie is a tough character who has a lot to overcome. Her self esteem is shot, she is a loner most times and I think her fear of rejection from her parents overwhelms her.

I don't want to forget to mention another key character in the story. Chandler has his own demons to face. Being a retired veteran, he has lived through horrific trauma during his service. I'm glad that we saw a glimpse of Chandler and how a service animal can be used to help victims who have been through trauma. His compassion for his work is displayed with hope and a determination to never give up.

Jamie has been silent for years and now she has strength and friends who are there to help her. Was there any time I felt she may falter? Never. I knew she was doing this to heal, protect others and give a voice to those too afraid to speak out. I liked the conversations that she had with different characters who helped guide her to God. It wasn't an in your face sort of talk, but one with a gentle push to help her seek the One who could stand beside her.

This is not a feel good kind of book. What it is though is a book about freedom from your past, justice long overdo and hope that a voice is heard to encourage others to speak out.

Ahhh ... Cara Putman has done it again with Delayed Justice, creating a winner that will keep you up at night till you finish the last page.

Delayed Justice reads like today's headlines. Timely and relevant, it takes a hard look at an evil unfortunately all too common -- sexual abuse. Putman does not shy away from the evil that it absolutely is, but shines a bright light in showing how God can redeem even the worst in life.

My heart broke with Jaime as I read her struggles, and I rejoiced as she rose above them. An admirable character, she goes on quite a journey throughout the book; she uses her own struggles to help others in similar situations as she works to find peace of her own.

Though this is the third book in the series, you could show more easily read it on its own. Do read the other installments to find out more about supporting characters that appear here!

I loved revisiting Washington, D.C., too. My many visits over the years helped me picture the setting in even more detail. My heart jumped a little every time I saw a familiar memorial or place!

Delayed Justice certainly was a timely read for me! That’s a bit of an understatement given the book’s premise — a decades-old abuse allegation leveled at a powerful man headed for a Senate confirmation. But while the situation was similar to current events, this inspirational novel contained a message of hope for a future. Delayed Justice is a recommended read.

Characterization is strong in Delayed Justice. Main characters Jaime and Chandler are well-developed and very relatable. This reader became immersed in their stories and cared deeply for their trials and ultimate victories. Secondary characters also added depth to the story and remind the reader of the evil present in the world, as well as the hope of God’s ultimate care show more and healing. And if you are a dog lover, then you are in for a treat with Chandler’s comfort animal, Aslan. Danger lurks on the edges of the characters’ lives throughout the book creating a tension that kept me turning the pages. The romance was also completely believable. Chandler is definitely swoon-worthy hero! I had two strong takeaways from Delayed Justice. First, I loved Jaime’s firm dedication to due process for the accused in spite of the wrongs she suffered as a child. Jaime, a public defender, states — “Our system doesn’t work without someone like me making sure all accused, regardless of whether they are innocent or guilty, have a fair opportunity to defend themselves.” (p. 93). And I loved how the power of story is demonstrated — a Christian fiction classic, The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe, spoke to Jaime in a way that traditional church methods did not. All in all, Delayed Justice checked all the boxes for me — I loved it!

Delayed Justice is the third book in Putman’s Hidden Justice series, but is easily read as a standalone novel. All three in the series are now available for hours of wonderful reading!

“What kind of God …?” This is the question Jaime Nichols has asked herself for the past two decades. What kind of God allowed the horrors she experienced happen to an innocent eight-old girl? What kind of God left her alone in that dark place?

Jaime’s story is tragic, and horrifyingly too real in today’s world of free will where evil is allowed its reign. But she is also one character who has been through the trenches which only makes her a stronger voice for those who are abused. And now that she’s ready to stand up for herself, to let her voice be heard, she is going to need more than herself standing beside and behind her.

This is most definitely Jaime’s story—one that she must finish in order to live show more fully—but she has a fantastic supporting cast around her with her friends who have stood with her since law school Then there’s Chandler Bolton. The two don’t have the best first meeting, but Chandler is a guy who proves there are still good ones out there. One who is patient when he needs to be but also goes after what he wants (and, of course, the Captain America references to his looks don’t hurt matters).

In Delayed Justice, Cara Putman gives readers another fast-paced legal suspense that gives readers a peek into the wheels of justice. But even more so, she handles difficult but real issues in a way to bring them the attention and justice they deserve.

I was lucky enough to read the second book in this series through the Booklook Bloggers program, and I ended up really loving it. When I saw the next book in the series, I knew I had to read it. I started this the day it arrived in the mail and I never wanted to put it down.

This story does deal with and has triggers around sexual abuse, PTSD, military issues, and more. I was heart broken from the first chapter. There was so much going on with our two main characters, Jaime and Chandler, that this will keep you up all night reading to know what happens. You really have three different stories going on at the same time (there is another story that is connected with Tiffany, but it really was like a third story). I would have liked to see show more more suspense around Jaimes story. It was also really creepy that you will get a few pages of the Uncles thoughts and manipulations.

I love when a story involves an animal, and this story does have a dog, Aslan, which is a comfort dog. Aslan helps comforts victims and helps them tell their stories. I just loved Aslan.

Overall, another winner in my book from Cara Putman. show less

What a journey you are about to begin as you turn these pages, now this is the third book in this series, but they can all stand alone, with some recurring characters.
With this story, actually there are three stories here, in a way related, but different, and you will become engrossed in all, and want answers, and hope all these characters will survive, you will soon care a lot about them.
There are some very deep subjects here, and you will be jumping with fear, and then you will fall in love with a beautiful, smart dog. I wanted to get to the end of the book to know all the answers, but at the same time I didn’t want to leave, a real page-turner.

This was definitely a five star out of five star book. I did not put this down until I was finished. I cried a lot during this. Jaime has gone through a traumatic experience when she was eight years old and now needs to face her demons. There are many twists and turns throughout. I really liked that this showed that a comfort dog needs to be properly trained before being used as an actual comfort animal. This is a deep story line. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
