Oldboy [2003 film]

South Korean vengeance masterpiece "Oldeuboi" delivers intricate, complicated plotting; kinetic, repulsive violence and a shocking unforgettable ending. Beautiful (if that's the word) direction by Chan-wook Park, powerful cinematography by Chung-hoon Chung and masterful leading performance by Min-sik Choi make the film a visceral masterpiece and a totally unforgettable experience.

A man is mysteriously imprisoned for 15 years, then set free.

I have to admit it's a good movie. But it's also horrible, in that Oh My God Why Did They Put This In A Movie Make It Stop sort of way.

I åpningsscenen i filmen blir Oh Dae-su kidnappet. Deretter blir han holdt innesperret i 15 år, uten at han aner hvem som har gjort dette mot ham. Da han blir sluppet løs, får han vite at han er mistenkt for drap av sin kone. Uten å vite hvem som er hans fiende, sverger han hevn.

Historien som sådan er grei nok. Filmen har også høstet voldsomme ovasjoner, og regissøren sammenlignes med Tarantino. For meg ble filmen likevel en nedtur, og jeg orket ikke en gang å se den ferdig. Det var noe med uttrykket i filmen som ikke tiltalte meg, og midtveis tenkte jeg at jeg ikke brydde meg om hvordan det gikk ... Filmen ga meg ingenting.

Strictly for kids who think this sort of gratuitous gore is cool, kids who think incest is thrilling, kids who think it's cute to chew up a live squid and kids who haven't any real cinematic culture, so they think this sort of shocking stuff is "art".
