Knisely's graphic novel work is consistently high-quality: clever and insightful memoir with enough research to add meaningful context. That mix of the specific and general works well for a very young audience as well. The colors are bright and cheerful, and there's lots of interesting faces to look at in a range of colors. It's simple and pleasant and acknowledges the frustrations and difficulties of the very young. Pleasing to adults who might have to read it aloud many times and to the very young too, I imagine (I did not actually test it on infants).

First sentence: Hello, you! You are new. When you're new....what can you do? You can look and see and peer. You can touch and taste and hear.

Premise/plot: This one is told in rhyme. It celebrates all things baby. It also celebrates growth and change.

My thoughts: I like this one okay. The text was enjoyable enough. I think--for me--I just did not personally care for the illustrations. Again, this is subjective. I am an overthinker. I just couldn't get passed the lilac/lavender/pink skin tone.
I am used to Lucy Kinsley writing graphic novels, but her take on a picture book is quite cute. Everything rhymes and works well together. The message is spot on. And the illustrations are interesting. Babies are sure to love it.
A delightful and fun picture book about babies that bounces along nicely and pairs well with Knisley's new cartoon collection: Go to Sleep (I Miss You): Cartoons from the Fog of New Parenthood.
This sweet picture book welcomes young ones into the world, talking about all the new things they will see, learn, and do. The colorful illustrations draw the eye in without being overwhelming and show diversity. Simple text makes this a good read-aloud or lapsit read even for very young readers. Indeed, I could easily see this being used in an infant/toddler storytime.
Many little kids love to hear about when they were babies: here is the book for them! Also good for those expecting a new little sibling soon. Simple rhyming text; digital collage illustrations on a white background show babies and parents of various skin colors.

The Hoovers left the city to "go it alone" in the North Woods in Minnesota. The book tells of wilderness living and the challenges it presents, and of sharing the forest with the animals.
