So dark! ( )

It was a fun read with a strong start as McGee is hooked into another mystery, and I liked the scenes in both Florida and Grenada as he unraveled what was really happening, but the cruelty of the protagonist while deceiving one of the marks put me off a bit, and I thought the ending didn't quite deliver. Agree with other reviewers - a bit too much violence / threat / sadism in this one for me. Distasteful scene with girl buried at the beach to die... ack. ( )

There are better McDonald books but it is still quite an adventure. The protagonist doesn't suffer fools, con-artist or lies. He is to world weary to put up with the BS.

Warning: If a hard man doing hard things to fix hard problems makes your woman parts hurt then avoid these books. ( )

Travis sticks himself into this adventure, travels to the Caribbean,Grenada, has a few brushes with death and bounces between a few lovely ladies. The story has plenty of twists and turns and enough detail to keep it interesting. How long will it be before a generation comes along that doesn’t know what a phone booth is? ( )

Epigraph
In northern Manitoba a man saw a great bald eagle - hanging from its neck, teeth locked in skin and feathers, the bleached skull of a weasel. by Jim Harrison (From "A Year's Changes")
Dedication
First words
On the most beautiful day any April could be asked to come up with, I was kneeling in eight inches of oily water in the cramped bilge of Meyer's squatty little cabin cruiser, the John Maynard Keynes, taking his automatic bilge pump apart for the third time in an hour.
