I always told my daughter that assumptions are the cause of all trouble. Because of them, there is war, hatred, and the breaking of relationships - in family, love, and friendship. Never assume... but never! If you want something to be okay, always ask, talk, no matter how painful it is. This book threw me into a total moral dilemma with myself. In some parts, the characters annoyed me terribly, both adults and teenagers. How much burden does a parent have to put on their back? On the other hand, as a teenager, how long does it take for you to understand that your parent is not your enemy. A relationship - in family, love and friendship - is a very difficult thing and there must be perseverance and will on both sides for show more it to succeed. And, as a parent, I know that you have to be honest with your child, even if that honesty brings pain. Because, honesty and conversation are the only things that create connection, trust, and love. And of course, when you don't assume, you always know what you're in for, and then, you make the choices you think are best for you, whether you're an adult or a teenager. I still have a moral roller coaster in my head and I know that it is difficult for us to understand each other, but, I also know that conversation and honesty always help to make better choice. This is a book about love and growing up, about forgiveness and dreams fulfilled, about the courage to stand up, even when everything comes crashing down on you. Read this book, you won't regret! show less

One of my favorite parts of a Colleen Hoover book is discovering at what point in the book I’m going to figure out how she’s cleverly come up with the title. No spoilers, but this one didn’t disappoint. This was my favorite sort of CoHo. Great romance. Juicy, juicy drama. So much hurt and emotional angst. And twists that you could see coming and guess, but still were so delicious to read and had you eagerly flipping pages because you were just breathless to see the tears and screaming matches unfold. Yes. That good.
Four friends. Two romances. Okay, four romances. Oh, that got so ugly as the truth of what this novel was going to become unfolded and I realized it was going to be something completely different that what I expected show more and so completely BETTER! Who cheats with their sister’s husband? Ugh. So many painful scenes. So well written. One of her best books. And the mother and daughter scenes were some of my very favorite parts of the book. So powerful. And really liked that this one was available in KU!

Holy Hell. The Queen has done it again. I'm talking about ALL THE MOTHERFUDGING FEELS. From smiles, to tears, to anger and back again, this mother/daughter relationship story is perfectly written in every way. It made me long for my own mother to still be here so I could hug and tell her thank you for all she did for me and wanting the best for me.
The characters in this story are fan-friggin-tastic. Hoover chiseled them with so much realism, with so much emotion, with so much perfection. I fell in love with Clara, seeing myself as a teenager in her, with Morgan, seeing so much of my own mother in her, with Jonah, hello, Hoover, thank you for THAT book boyfriend, with Miles, can I kiss him and marry Jonah, and even with Chris. The show more secrets, the pain, the love.....all of it made this book the best one I read in 2019.
If you've never been introduced to Colleen Hoover's work before, grab this one. You'll want a box of Kleenex with you, and maybe even a bottle of whiskey to chase the pain away. It's beyond just a simple recommendation. It's an amazing novel that will leave you breathless and wanting more. Once again, Hoover has created a magnificent novel that will suck your soul right out of your body and hold it captive long after the last page is read.

All the Feels and So Much More
Insomnia at its best. I love when these two things happen together one, I cannot sleep and two one of my favorite authors has a new book. I had about 65% of this read by 4am on January 2, 2020 it is that breath taking. I do have a request if you are planning to read this and that is do not read the blurb at all. I do not want you to know a single thing before you open this book. I am not even sure how much the blurb gives away because I still have not read it. I just want you to dive headfirst into Regretting You exactly the way I did and show more let it swallow you up in the absorbing way only Colleen Hoover seems to be able to. I was so wrapped in it that I went to sleep thinking about this book, I woke up thinking about this book and now I am just shook by the experience. This is one of those epic books that will stay with you for days and it will be worth it. Like I have already said, I do not want to spoil the storyline itself. The way it comes together and unfolds, the shocking twists and turns in the story are simply BRILLIANT and if you know anything at all about it ahead of time, it might not be the punch in the gut the way it should be. I know you are thinking why would I be so obsessed you just have to find out for yourself. The way it is written though with the dual perspectives is genius. I will tell you that this is a story as much about love as it is about family. It is a wholly relatable story about the mother and daughter dynamic and it hit home for me HARD as a daughter. It really does illuminate the growing pains of parenting, the way so much can change while the need to protect and shelter never will. It was a kick right to the gut feeling Clara's resentment and anger toward her mother, such completely authentic reactions yet so brutally heartbreaking to witness. Regretting you is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. It will show you the resilience of the bond of mother and daughter and it will give you hope that people can make the best of even the worst of circumstances. show less

How are you supposed to feel when you lose your husband/father AND sister/aunt at the same time? That is exactly what "Regretting You" focuses on from the back and forth view point of the wife and daughter left behind.
I loved the raw emotions displayed by each of the main characters and how the story is continuously told, but flipping views from mother to daughter and back with each chapter. The book showcases the anger and situations of a teenage girl (like drinking, sex, skipping school) as well as the difficulties parenting a teenage girl - all while handling grief. The climax of the book focuses on the mother keeping the truth from the daughter, but the explosion of emotion was worth the wait.
At times, I was frustrated with the show more daughter for her behavior toward her mother, but maybe that is a personal issue I have. I also am turned off when people don't get a chance to saw what they want, which the daughter didn't allow from her mother. None of this was enough to stop me from thoroughly enjoying this though.
I would not recommend this book if you have recently lost a parent or spouse, as it provokes real emotion. However, I think if you enjoy tear-jerkers, coming of age type books, or light romances, this is a great book for you!
I give it 4/5 stars. (I listened to the audiobook version.) show less

I loved this book!! I've FINALLY read a book by Colleen Hoover and I can see why readers love her. Regretting You pulled me right in and I became emotionally bonded with the characters through the rich narrative that so fully captured their personas. As I progressed through each chapter I was surprised by secrets, lies, misunderstandings and misinterpretations that kept me eager to press on. And then there was the sweet expressions of blossoming young love that had me all flushed and giggly and happy—reminiscing about what it feels like to be in love when you're young and relatively carefree from the adult pressures of life.
Overall, Regretting You was a great story that I enjoyed with excellently developed characters and a show more delightfully satisfying ending that I highly recommend. Loved it!! show less
