Game of Thrones: The Complete Series

Hoo boy, talk about a cultural phenomenon. When this show was airing, it was a popular topic of conversation in the workplace and at home, memes were made from it and so on. Parents were naming their children after GOT characters... although after the finale I don't doubt there were at least a few regrets regarding the names of Daenerys and Khaleesi... especially as these girls age and get old enough to get the references and connotations of their names.

Anyway, the books this spawned from are quite good, but there was also some frustration because GRRM was supposed to have finished at least the sixth book before the show moved past that point... and now the show is over and we STILL don't have book 6. The series finale for the show is a show more point of contention and it's not hard to see why, what happened with Dany is something I hope doesn't happen in the books... assuming GRRM ever actually finishes the god damn books.

It's now almost 2026, GRRM is almost 80, there hasn't been a new book in over a decade, so I guess the TV show is the only real ending we'll get to A Song of Ice and Fire. Eh. show less

Harsh political intrigue and gripping fantasy action in a grimly and (mostly) realistic medieval-inspired world. A series which started out brilliantly, and then got more and more uneven as it moved further away from the source material. The final few seasons are sadly a huge step down from the first few, but the decline is rather slow and gradual in my opinion, and even at the end of the show, it was quite good compared to most ambitious television dramas -- just rather terrible compared to itself in its heyday. Still worth checking out if its even in the vicinity of your kind of thing, but be mentally prepared going in for a much weaker final few seasons.
